So why don't 10in wide square setups work?

Caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)

You get what you pay for...If you plan on tracking the car, inexpensive cast wheels should be avoided...I see them break all the time. A Miata flipped in front of me and decide to play "Turtle" due to cheap cast wheels...If you're just getting some bling wheel for cheap, go for it.

Yeah I run my (cheap) cobra Rs on the street and my PFO1s for autox/tracking. But Marc s runs the Saleen replica wheels and must be having pretty good luck with them. He has a very fast pony for sure from the videos I've seen.

I have a set of both the 18x9.5 +35mm offset and the 18x10.5 +38mm. I always run a square setup with both sets without a problem. The advantage of running a square setup allows rotation of my Hoosiers for maximum wear...no clearance issue at all...they do not stick out. I you look at the side view shot of my car in post #49 (with the obnoxiously large photos!!), you can see the rear does not stick out, nor does the front.

Thanks I was just a little concerned since I'm running sportlines, I didn't want to get into any rubbing if I were to run a 285 or 295/40 for the rear.

Thanks! Those are the PF01 that I got from David (NEMustang) in the 18x10.5" +38 wrapped in Hankook RS3 285s all around. No rubbing anywhere.

Jose,

That black combination looks great! I have the 9.5 in black and the 10.5 are in silver...Looking at your car, I need to dump my 2007 and get me a new 5.0!!

Are the tires 285/40? Center caps fit with no issues?

Those are 285/35ZR18 Hankook Ventus R-S3 - Great dry autocross tire for those that have to stay within "street tire" UTQG -140 wear. Some even use them as a DD tire but I drive way too much for that. I have over 60 runs and an track day event on those tires. I think they will heat cycle out before they reach the wear bars.

The wheels now have R-Comps for the 2013 season. 275/35R18 Hankook Ventus Z214 C91. I am too stingy to buy Hoosiers....for now.

I have never noticed any issues with the center caps.

Great, thanks. I think another reason your setup looks "just right" is because the overall diameter isn't crazy big like the stock 27".

it's easy to say when you see the car from a 3/4 angle. smaller OD tires look most awkward from the profile perspective (straight on from the side).

regardless, smaller OD tires are cheaper, lighter, and offered in more sizes. they're a total no-brainer for a track setup.

Yes it would work, tire selection will be limited with the 19 though. I run just about the same set up, 43 offset. I have a 285 square set up but use a 5 mm spacer in front.

Forgestar is now making a 10" inch wheel with a +39 offset and revised center cap to allow them to fit without a spacer.

The 19x10 from american muscle will not fit the front without modifications .

would a 19x10 with a +39 work all the way around then? I'd just have to order from Forgestar or a distributor of them I'd assume

Is that hood polished or are my eyes deceiving me?

I run 18x10 AMR's all the way around without spacers and they clear Brembos no problem.

Yes, it is polished aluminum. I started with a new hood from Ford. They come raw aluminum. I then wet sanded it in a couple stages to make it more smooth, and polished it with a DA, wool pad, and Mothers aluminum polish. Was no easy task.

That is the most awesome hood I have seen. Its just a damn shame the whole car cant be polished like that. I remember as a kid I had a Hot Wheels car that was completely chromed. I believe it was a AMX Javelin. Was my favorite and I kept it for years.

Are you going to leave it like that?
I still have my painted hood that I run in the winter, so I swap them out from time to time. But yes, I plan to keep it that way. I didn't put over 20 hours in it to just paint over it.

Thanks! I was actually inspired by the Shelby GR1 concept car I saw a few years ago at the Autorama.
