EPAS Terrible Shudder

We are approaching this slowly, but in depth.

This morning, we replaced the ball-joints, and all of the bushings (Poly Front bushings, Delrin Rear bushings) on the BMR A-Arms.

We did notice, upon removing....the rear retaining nut for the Delrin mounting point was a little loose. I doubt this has anything to do with the issue, though.

For anyone wondering, this is a full BMR Tubular front suspension. The car is a 2011 GT and has stock tires and wheels. It is a Base Automatic, with 18" wheels.

Mine had the shudder when the temp was warmer and the steering was warmed up. It never did it when the car was cold or the temp.

mine does this too. makes me wish for cold weather all the time...

I still want to see the hardware. Buying the same rack with different firmware on it for a grand is retarded.

Just imagine driving on a flat up front.

Imagine driving on the interstate at 75 mph in traffic and hitting some grooved concrete or rough pavement and having the worst front end shimmy you can imagine. Steering wheel vibrating back and forth and won't go away if you speed up; only if you slow down to 40 mph. It doesn't matter that you have gone by the rough pavement and are now on a smooth section. Once it starts, it won't go away until you slow down. That's what a bad EPAS shudder is like.

i've only just started reading it, but i see some members there saying those who have a boss 302 need not change their racks because it's not the same as the GT from an electronics standpoint and does not experience the EPAS failure issues we have.

does anyone have the part number for the boss 302 rack?

I just got off the phone with our OEM Ford Supplier.

These are the only racks he had in his sytem:

17" Wheels - DR3Z-3504-AE
18" Wheels - DR3Z-3504-BE
19/20" Wheels - DR3Z-3504-CE
Boss 302 Race - M-3200-EPAS

So, I will assume that the DR3Z-3504-CE rack is the same for the Brembo / GT500 / Boss302...?

Has anyone tried to use the DR3Z-3504-CE on a car that is having this issue? Hopw many cars having this issue, have the "CE" version??

I wonder if the Brembo cars all got the "CE" rack?

there is a lot of info in that boss302 forum thread... i was hoping you could understand it more than i can since i'm clueless.

i have a 2011 GT brembo pack car, so i must have the DR3Z-3504-CE straight from the factory, and i've got the shakes (started after recently installing steeda front LCAs, but i have a lot of other suspension parts in the car as well), so you can cross that one off the list (unless it's been updated since my car came off the assembly line).

i did not get my GT back from the dealer yesterday. it's either they are still trying or my front end is still scattered all over the shop floor. i am the only customer they have with this problem. like i mentioned before they have a customer 302S sitting in the back of the shop. if i can just get my hands on it for a few minutes with some power tools... lol.


i have tried contacting a few svt dealers and they said they couldn't even find the M3200 EPAS in inventory anywhere and i'm the first to ask about it... why do i have to be so special dammit. the only time i want to be first is at the finish line >_<

As for your issue, I do know....from researching in the past, there were issues with early production racks.

You will notice the most common complaints, come from 2011 Mustang owners.

oh... i only saw this:

The rack castings are slightly different and the engineering part numbers are updated but I don't think there are any major hardware changes. I think its a stripped direct function program that gives a more direct mechanical feel and feedback. I was hoping Mark has a chance to chime in and explain what is different. I really love the feel and hope my shake issue is behind me.

I'm hoping to purchase one next week, I'm checking with Tousley and the other usual suspects as well. Maybe steeda can start to offer the part given that they advertise "no steering shudder" on their arms (which I knew was a complete fallacy going in)
