You do realize the Mustang is not, nor has never been, a Muscle Car right?
Really. I have lived my entire life under that misconception.

It's a Pony Car, not a Muscle Car.
revs sound like shit. Tinney/raspy in a bad way.

So the 1968.5 428 CJ or the 69 Mach 1 428CJ were Pony Cars, not Muscle Cars? I could see the argument of the original Mustang being a Pony Car as well as the Low end models each year but not the big motor or high performance models....? I would never have considered either of those two or the 2013 GT500 as a "Pony Car".
its a pre production car. you never know, it may have a one off set of mufflers on it. or mufflers from a vendor they no longer use.
a muscle car would be a standard mid sized car that they put a big engine into to make it something new. The mustang was designed to be sporty and smaller than muscle cars, just like the Camaro/firebird and challenger
So what do you consider a "Muscle Car" to be? I was raised on cars of the late 60's and early 70's and consider Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Charger, RoadRunner, GTO, Olds, etc. to be "Muscle Cars". I know opinions will vary on this subject so just curious.
Definition[edit]
According to Muscle Cars, a book written by Peter Henshaw, a "muscle car" is "exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a large-displacement engine in it. The Muscle Car is Charles Atlas kicking sand in the face of the 98 horsepower weakling."[7] Henshaw further asserts that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity", or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars.[7]
However, opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, and pony cars qualify as muscle cars.[8]
