Will it take its retro styling cues from the Mustang II? The 2005 model took its styling from the 1964 model and the 2010 model takes its styling form the 1969 model. So is 1974 Mustang II styling next?

i think they will start with a all new platform, probably no more retro styling cues from the classics.

The 2005 didn't take it's styling from the 65, it took its styling mostly from 69. The 2010 took some from 69 and some from their imagination. The nose and tail of 2010 do not resemble any previous mustang that I can think of.

Anyone remember the Talladega version of the Torino? That is what the 2010 Mustang looks like. They took the regular front end and "squished" it down for aero purposes. Then tapered the rear panel.

And, no....the Mustang II will not be making a styling return. The chief designer of the Mustang division absolutely HATES those year models. He's also not a big fan of the Fox bodies either.

He's not Chinese. He's from Thailand unless I'm mistaken. Huy Thei Tang. Damn nice guy too. Told me the first time he saw a Mustang was in Vietnam when he was a little kid. A bright red '65 coupe with a 289 and a four speed.

Seriously...he hates the Mustang II and the Fox body cars. Realizes the importance that the Fox platform has played in the Mustang's popularity and aftermarket but he just hates the platform. When I told him I prefer the Thunderbird and Fairmont Futura to the Fox body styles he said, "Yeah.....better race car material." Then went into this long disertation about how the '88 Thunderbird was one of the finest aero body styles ever produced and was one of the best race car platforms for 150-210 mph. Sharp guy and can't hide his enthusiasm. He and the new head of FRPP, Brian Wolfe, get along well too. I just don't see too many downsides to having these guys at the helm of our Mustang and high performance parts productions.
