If your trans is aimed down 2.5 and your pinion is aimed down 1.5 then your pinion is aimed too high. You want the pinion pointing lower than your trans, not higher. Pinion would be down 4 degrees to have a net -1.5 pinion angle.

I must be interpreting all of you guys instructions wrong. I been following these instructions in these post and started to get some results.

Next weekend I will have time to get the car level I n the lift and measure it good. Now that I adjusted my UCA for more angle I will be able to set it right at -2.0 then -1.5 and see what happen. I am almost sure I will have to take the DS for balance.

Looking from the driver side.....how many ever places the gauge moves to the right, is negative XX. So, if you read -2.5 at trans/crank....and want a -1 pinion angle, then you move 1 place to the right, and end up at -1.5 at the pinion (needle moves 1 place to right)

A positive angle would be the needle moving to the left. So, if you are at -2.5 and you set the pinion at -3.5...you will have a +1 "pinion angle".

Negative is left of zero on the gauge....but if you use the gauge in the same manner/orientation - the negative and positive #'s do not "jive". For example, the more "negative" (down) you face the pinion - the more "positive" reading you will get on the gauge.

That is exactly what I think has been confusing me. But that explains a lot.

Played around a little bit this morning with our cars in the R&D facility.

It is amazing how difficult it actually is to get a proper reading with these cheap angle finders. It is definitely important to ensure that the complete true flat spot on the finder, is perfectly flat when utilizing the magnet. That damn magnet is more harm than good, from my findings.

Anyhow, IMO the pinion flange machined flat spot and the rear machined surface are about as "true" as it gets, in terms of similarity in angle.

Here is the angle of the rear of the flange, using a square. In this picture - it is the exact angle. I ensured the complete flat portion - was flat against the square. This is why you will notice the angle finder is slightly shifted on the base plate of the square.



Here is the angle of the machined flat spot that we recommend taking angle measurement from. This is somewhat trickier than it seems, and I will try to remember to tell people to use a square off the backside, if possible. By using the magnet on this piece, I was able to almost swing a full degree in each direction, based on the position. I confirmed this angle reading with the base plate of the square - but it was WAY too difficult to snap a pic of that.



Here is a snapshot of the square mounted to the two spots. There is a "speckle" of light coming through, which is a "nick" in the metal. The light is very bright.



Here is a snap shot of the angle finder placed on the square I was using. They match perfectly.



Ignore the wheelie bars, engine on stand, and the other cars on the lifts. Just a typical day of hot-rodding at BMR Suspension.

Those wheelie bars are silly! I keep telling my boss he is a wimp. He replies with "once you approach 7's Naturally Aspirated with a manual trans, come talk to me"

If someone where to have vibration ONLY at certain speed, 75 mph and up and everything else has been corrected, tires, axles rotors and pinion angle is within -1.5 to -2. Could it be drive shaft balancing or related? Also drive shaft has about .10 Run out in the front and .5 in the back

You aren't going to get the bottom of the square perpendicular with the back of the flange. Let's take the D/S out of the car and square the bottom of the flange up with the front and see where we are.

If I get time this weekend from running some 10.5 cars I'll get under mine, remove the D/S, and see where it stands.

BTW - The area to check with the light is the bottom of the flange, not the back.

Wrong. "IF" the part was not perpendicular, the light will be on the opposite side that is laying flat. It can go either way.

You bet. Put the stock D/S back in and compare.

Kelly in this image the square appears to be on the bolt. Is it or no? I ask because i see light at the top of it and bottom. Just want to be clear where to get my measurements from.

Wrong again. It doesn't matter what angle the square lies on the flange. It doesn't matter if it pointed thru the center of the flange, or runs against two bolts. It's all the same plane. That right angle will not change.

It is not on the bolt. It is between them - flat on the flange.

Measure from either place that I pictured. I got "0" on the back part of the flange....and "0" on the bottom.

His pic is suspect and I will double check the measurement on my own car and post results regardless if is truly square or not. 0 bias. You act as though I am trying to sell something to someone.

BTW - Not one thing in this thread pertained to your dumb ass however you feel the need to jump on anything I post because I questioned your buddy and his results. Mine differed. Your's differed. You have not one logical explanation for it....just speculation.
