Considering starting an indie auto-blog

A friend of mine and I have been toying around with the idea of writing about cars in our area and posting our findings to a website that we would make. There are some pretty nifty cars here in North-West Florida and we know quite a few people who would be willing to contribute their cars to the cause. Also, we like to think that we don't completely suck at writing, photographing, taking video, or presenting material in general to the interwebs. We've owned and driven quite a few different cars for our age and feel like it's time to share some of our experiences with the rest of the world.

Anyway, I want to share this photo with you, S197 enthusiasts, as I'm sure this car will become a start-up piece to our mediocre car adventures.

I've always wanted to do the same but also do a 30 minute monthly per episode series in a Top Gear Format. Dub it Top Gear: Modified. Features only modified cars and car culture related features, Replace Star in a Reasonable Priced Car with "Girl in a Clunker", and comical satire into car culture events such as Mustang Week. I figured a starting the blog then see how the following takes to it becoming a web series. I'm sure someone will figure a way to sue me if I used the Top Gear name even with Modified subtitle attached and still being for non-profit.

Well with the way Clarkson handles business with his producer, you may be able to do a spin-off of Top Gear with no legal issues if it ends up being cancelled for good.

There are a few decent YouTube channels of people reviewing modified cars. One of note is ThatDudeinBlue (also a Mustang owner). He has been picking up a lot of speed and gaining support over the past couple of years while producing interesting material. Check it out sometime: https://www.youtube.com/user/ThatDudeinBlue

Getting a good and and captivating formula will be the hardest part. I don't at all expect to be on the level of Speedhunters any time soon, but we all have to start somewhere I guess. We will incorporate videos into the blog as that is definitely the way forward with the delivery of automotive information these days, but we'll also stick with a clear and concise written story for each event and car we review.

So there's a pretty good car scene down in Okaloosa county? I really want to move down there in the next year or two... I figured there wouldn't be much of a car scene there. Are there regular meets and such?

There is in fact a decent car scene here and it's growing quickly. Just in the Okaloosa area we have a weekly Tuesday night meet and a monthly Cars and Coffee which has quickly gotten huge. We are starting to pull people from as far as Pensacola and Panama City. Since the meets have started to increase, meeting car enthusiasts has been much easier and we're starting to see a lot of interesting vehicles pop up that have actually been around here for quite some time.

I personally got to meet a father and son who own three of the nastiest Mustangs around this area, one of which is a 1600 hp street car. With any luck, they will be willing to "donate their vehicles to the cause". Depending on how close you are to the area, I'd say it would be worth it to come to a Cars and Coffee meeting down here sometime. The event is at 9:30 AM on the second Saturday of each month at the Starbucks in front of the Santa Rosa Mall at 300 Mary Esther Blvd, Mary Esther, FL 32569.

Very cool and good to hear from an actual resident. I'll definitely stop by the c&c next time I'm down there at the right time of month. I'm ~5 hrs away for now but I'll be down there some this summer. Thanks for the info! Good luck getting some interesting stuff for the blog.
