Hello everyone,
I currently have some money stashed to finally make some much needed improvements to my stang! I have been getting/buying parts used here and there, and have accumulated several American muscle gift cards over the last few years. I currently have an 07 gt thats stock. I already have pypes long tube headers, pypes off road x-pipe, pypes mid muffler system set aside for the car. From my research and for what I have stashed(@$1000) I figured I'd do a Bama tuner with cai combo, a set of 4.10 ford racing gears, and a short throw shifter??? Does that seem like a good direction to go in to get the best bang for my buck?? What brand cai would most people suggest running with the current parts I already have? Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This isn't considered tech on this forum, it should be in the chit chat section, I would also suggest searching as its all been discussed before
but to answer your question, jlt series 3 or c&l racer, tuner, gears, mgw shifter, cars going to be loud with that exhaust

Sorry guys, I'm newer to this forum, maybe I searched the wrong section of the forum, or the searched the wrong keywords, but not much popped up in my search. I'll try to search the chit chat area, I also have read through american muscles review sections and watched there videos, but It still doesn't tell me what will work best with what I currently have set aside to install. I figured members here have had a similar budget and have similar exhaust setups and would chime in on what worked best for them. Thanks anyway!

Do you plan on installing these parts yourself, or does the $1000 include install? I ask more for the gears than for anything else. Install is involved and pricey.

Thanks. I just searched the wrong area, I have now began to search the chit chat area and i'm coming up with some useful info. stkjock- I also appreciate you moving the thread, because while searching I have read through the bashing that several members have taken for posting wrongfully in the tech section. Sorry again! I'll continue to read up in the chit chat section, and I guess this topic has been discussed too much, but if people do want to help me out, feel free to post up recommendations.

I will be doing the Exhaust work, shifter, tuner & cai myself. Gears will be done by a friend at his shop for free, or a minimal charge.

I've seen some recommend going with 4.56 gears?? My car will be used to goto cruise nights, maybe test and tune nights at a local drag strip and just general cruising around on nice days. I do have to run highways to do alot of these things, so would 4.56's be too much? American muscle seems to recommend 4.10's gearing.

I'm still NA (basic mods noted in my signature) and I went with 4.56 gears. Same for me, usually backroads to shows, some highway. It hovers around 2800 RPMs at just under 80mph. I have taller rear tires though (295/45/18 - 28.4" tall). So the effective gear ratio is closer to 4.30 for me. If you run stock height tires (27.2") or lower, the 4.56s might be too aggressive for you.

I plan on a Paxton or Vortech blower, and I think it'll work well with the agressive gears.

Bottom line, for what I do with my car, I like the 4.56 gears, but I think 4.10s are the most useable for all applications.

Hope that helps...

What's your plan for the car? Drag racing, cornering, street car?

Reason I ask is because I had all the 'normal' bolt ons done to my 06 and the modification that made the car simply more fun to drive was suspension work. Konis, good springs, LCA's, panhard bar, etc will make the car handle like it's on rails and make it way more fun to drive.

Now if you're focused 100% on simply going faster, then yea 4.10 and intake/tune combo.

I'd like to make the car an all around fun car, But to be honest, I want to deal with better engine performance and more hp 1st. In november of 2013 I bought a 07 dodge ram 2500 6.7l diesel truck as my Daily driver. I had it deleted, 5" turbo back exhaust installed, custom engine tuning, and some custom trans tuning done to the truck. The truck has some snot! So The 1st show I took the stang to in summer of 2014 I thought there was something wrong with the car. It seemed sluggish of the line, poor throttle response, and felt like it had no balls and like it couldn't get out of its own way. Then I remembered I drive a 475rwhp truck daily with tons of torque, and the mustang was probably running fine with its 265rwhp. So I have to do something, because my truck ruined my mustang fun!

Thanks for the link, I've contacted him to look into tuning. So I think I'm leaning towards mgw shifter, 4.10 gears and the jlt 3 series intake. I'm guessing for the gear change i should buy the gears with installation kit??

Stick with the jlt2, gears sound great, 3 royal purple 75w140 maxgear, friction additive(motorcraft for me, low cost), gt500 pinion bearing, i bought the base install kit, but didnt need it, guy had a ton of shims sitting around and used them.
Tasca got me a good price on the ford racing gears, i wouldnt go over a 4.10.

Is a grand going to cover all this stuff? Used xcals are great if you trust the seller and they are unlocked, plus a $75 a single tune file for me(brenspeed).

Thanks for the lead on Tasca. I wrote them and I'm waiting on an answer. Let me ask this. I have a ford racing CAI off a 07 shelby gt. I bought it off craigslist. The guy I got it from said I wouldn't need a tune to run it. I installed it and the car wouldn't run with it on. So I removed it and its been on the shelf in the garage since. Should I save $200 and just bolt that cai on, or should I stay with the jlt? I want to do the upgrades right, but If I'm not gonna notice the difference between the 2 cai, it be great to save the $200. Also I can't seem to find the option to by a jlt2?? Only the 3 series. I posted a pic of the cai I have. If I can save the $200, then I'd be below my $1000 budget.

Save the $200, any difference between the two will be negligible.

Save the $, all the work is in the tune anyway. A guesstimate would be maybe a 5rwhp difference between the two. Focus and consider what octane you would like to run for the tune, i went with a single tune file for 92 and fill up with 93 for a little safety net. The jlt2 would be a good pickup used, not new if you still consider that.
Gl on the budget and hope you get everything done right the first time.
