usure its a bolt? Look at my pic again and look at the right hand side and you can see its not a bolt head on that side.
Look closely, it has a hex head on it. It's part of the chain guide i'm pretty sure.
I'm 100% sure of the thread size and depth of the holes because I ran a tap through them and a depth gauge.

Oil pump failed which released pressure from the chain tensioners.
This allowed the chains to slap breaking the bolts.
Look at the left chain near the crank.
Is it damaged?
It's hard to see from the pics.
It would be great if someone can post a pic of an undamaged chain guide with attention being paid to the end near the crank.
Another thing you should do Ron is remove the sparkplugs so there is no compression and install the crankshaft bolt.
Turn the motor slowly till the timing marks line up.
This will give you a good idea if you jumped a tooth on the timing chains.

No the passenger side is Right if you look at the chain tensioner in the pic below.
I would change both chain tensioner arms and all the bolts for both the chain tensioner arms and chain guides as a precaution.
Can you confirm from the drivers side if the bolt appears to be part of the chain tensioner arm?

If the broken bolts are part of the chain tensioner arms like I suspect you will need the following parts:
1L2Z6L253BA Tensioner Arm (Right)
1L2Z6L253AA Tensioner Arm (Left)

Tell ya' what......how about in exchange for you letting me use it I put the rotating assembly into a new block? I've got two blocks that are good, we won't have to use the motor mount adapters, and we're sure everything is in good shape.

Haha, for that deal I'd let you use my engine!!

you havent had time to break it yet. I only had 7k on mine

Hey, I got almost 5K on my motor now. The problem was all those belt issues, but they seem to be gone now. I'll probably put a lot more miles on the car this summer.

i have no faith in larry_h's motors. not after all of the problems. Peter you are aware of it all

Haha, your right! I still need to get that pulley measurement for you too. By the way, those 70mm idler pulleys are working great!

I pulled it off of mine yesterday and it's a 76mm like all the rest:thumb:. OOPS.

It's a dowel pin, that I am 100% certain of, the pin comes with the tensioner arm. The chain tensioner arms wouldn't pivot freely if they were bolted down even in one spot.

Im following and have my fingers crossed for you Ron. I beleive that I received one of Larry's last engines built before he vanished into thin air. Have hardly any miles on it (around 1k) we will see.

Maybe we're just wording things differently but a dowel would need to be drifted into the block just like the dowels are drifted into a flywheel.
When I say it's a bolt I mean that it threads into the block and the chain tensioner pivots around it.
If you look at the pics of my Teksid here you can see that they are threaded into the block.

Edit: I think the best word to describe the attachment point would be a stud rather than a bolt or dowel.

are you sure we are talking about the same pulley? The one that goes behind the Saleen Alternator bracket? If so thats good news because I already have one of your 76mm idler pulleys sitting around. It is very possibably with all that was going on at the time that I grabber the 90mm pulley instead of the 76mm one when comparing the sizes.
