Finally finished the damn pump house (for now). My friend Don is getting me some roofing material for free so I'm waiting on that. I need to paint it but in order to do that I need to decide on paint colors for the house because the current puke and mud colors aren't cutting it. The 1x2 strip around the top edge is the spacer for the drip edge, just like the rest of the house.

I picked up a couple 94 lb bags of Portland to help firm up the dirt (sand) driveway. Yesterday some asshole decided our driveway was a good spot to test his posi traction and ripped up a good 15' trench. I can't wait to blacktop the whole thing and be done with it. I already figured out how to pitch the grade in order to keep my neighbor's drive from filling up with washout as well. I'm also thinking of installing a French drain from the top of the driveway area out to the curb and reduce the amount of washout flowing down the driveway. All the water off my roof goes straight down the driveway.

Been working on picking paint colors. I think I want a dark green and ten combo but most of the houses around me are some variant of tan and 3 of the 4 closest to me have green. However, my front shutters were already dark green and that green does not match any of my immediate neighbors so I tried to match that as closely as I could.

Now I'm working on the tan. I don't want yellow and I don't want mauve. The current mauve and puke colors aren't appealing to me at all. As a starting point I tried the two tan colors I used inside and I think I need something in between those two tans. I picked up some test samples today of two tans and not sure which to use, although they are close enough that nobody would ever notice the difference.

And yes, I have corner trim for the pump house. I'm not leaving that corner like that.

I think so too. The really nice girl at Lowe's said she thought the lighter one had more red in it but she also readily admitted the lighting in the store was harsh and made it difficult to see the true colors. Getting them out in the daylight I think the darker one has more red. Going to use the lighter one I believe.

And the 5 gallon buckets are $200 so I better be happy with the color. I'll probably end up using 8-10 gallons of tan and 3 gallons of green. I remember painting my dad's house as a kid and I used 13 gallons of paint. Don't remember how much I used at my old house as I did it in stages.

Lighter colors are always a better bet in the FL sun.

are you going to get a sprayer? i would recommend it for doing that much area

I will ask around. I'm sure I can come up with something, but I have no problem rolling it. In my mind I was preparing to break it down into sections because I have so much prep to do. Figured I'd prep an area and paint it, then move to the next area. Besides the 47 cable and phone wires running along the soffitt and routed through the block into every room of the house I also have cracking issues to deal with. Planning on grinding those out with a diamond blade and filling with ElastoMeric (I think that's the name) caulk. I will need to brush out all the soffitts with a stiff brush and/or scraper to get all the vines and wasp nests out.

So rolling the paint isn't that big of a deal after all that prep. I know with a good sprayer it can take a quart of paint to prime the machine so you want to blow the entire house at once. It might take me 3 months to prep everything to my satisfaction so it will be a lot less wasteful to just grab a roller and paint a couple hundred feet at a time. It will break up the monotony of prep and give me some visual indication of making progress as I work my way around the house.

I picked up 5 gallons of the tan paint the other day and had a couple hours this morning to begin covering up the puke colors. The 5 gallon can doesn't match the sample at all but it's about halfway in between the two colors so I'll just go with it.

More painting today. The place looks so bad that I'm pretty much just throwing on the first coat, then I'll go back and address areas that need more attention before the second coat. When I painted my last house I spent 3-4 weeks prepping before I rolled the first drop of paint and to be honest nobody really noticed. I know this house isn't in the best of shape so tons of prep isn't going to make a huge difference. People will notice the paint, they won't notice the caulk.
