Wow, untuned auto Coyotes are pretty sad!

Took the 2011 Auto to the track today, the DA was from 8950' to 9270' throughout the day, and here's what she did.

60 foots ranged from 2.29 - 2.34

1/8 mile ET's from 9.23 - 9.41

trap at the end of the 1/8th was 78.5 - 80.3

Not that it matters but this was on M&H dr's at 32psi, and barely squeeking off the line. The best et and trap came with manually shifting, for some reason the factory tune likes to shift out of 1st at 6500rpms, so I tried letting her rev to 7K and it liked it a little better, hahaha. I know that's pretty dismal, but it's my starting place for the car. I hope to have a tune, and converter in the car for the next race, and hope to be running mid 8's like my stock white manual car would do, we'll see.......

You running at Bandimere in Colorado or was that DA just a terribly hot day with 95% humidity?

That clears up a lot. I was able to find an old time slip from a pass where me and another guy ran stock V stock in 13 Mustang GT's. me stick shift, him auto. Kept the slip because I had my first (and likely only) 000 R/T on that pass. Both of our 60's were right at 2.000 on street tires. My 1/8th that pass [email protected]. His 1/8th was [email protected]. My 1/4 - [email protected], his [email protected]. needless to say in spite of my nearly .3 advantage off the line he drove around me. That was 11/10/2012. The air would have been a lot nicer that day. I remember it being sunny but chilly out. Don't know the DA but it was likely some of the better air of the year based on the time of year. So say 900-1200DA that day at a guess? My pass was consistent with other passes I had made stock earlier that fall at another track. That should give you a little better idea regardless of how it feels on actual performance stick vice auto in two completely stock Mustang GT's of the same year.

Once you get a decent tune in that car you are going to really be happy with it IMO. I enjoy the track more now than I did then. I can focus on doing a better burnout, staging more consistently, etc. Getting my reaction time down and learning how to make the most of what I have through a stock converter off the line is the learning curve. Good luck, hope this data helps you. Thanks for sharing where you run. We were at Edgewater Raceway in Cleves Ohio that day btw.

Thank you for your input. And although this auto of mine isn't surprising me performance-wise yet at the dragstrip like my manual car did, I can certainly agree with you that it's much easier to focus on the tree without worrying about rpms, clutch engagement, breaking parts, bla, bla, bla. I had a good time yesterday regardless of my times, and with any luck my next outing next month will at least be solidly in the 8's in similar air.

I'm probably going to be placing my order tomorrow for a Circle-D converter and tune. I hear great things from Mike Rousch at mid Atlantic, but also Lund, Aed and a few others. I might just go through beefcake racing and get both items through them as they sell both of the things I need being the converter, and tuning from Lund. Thoughts??

I'm also going to need 2 tune visions for parts changing, probably late late this summer, I'm gonna do headers and full exhaust, then possibly supercharge it with a Centrifugal this next spring since the stall I'll be ordering tomorrow will be as loose as I can get for NA performance and really won't match the characteristics of a PD blower at a later date, and I don't plan on spending over a grand on a stall converter more than once lol.

If you have access to E-85 go ahead and get the flex fuel tune. I know AED and lund both offer it.

Lund all the way.

If you can't squeak the tires on a stock auto GT even without a tune, there is something wrong with you or your car.

What should I look for, no check engine light, no unusual noises from engine / exhaust, pulls just as strong as my white manual once it gets moving? I'll agree with you all day that the motor feels weak at low rpms, do you think there's an issue with the variable cam timing? Would that throw a code?

I'd also like to mention that there was a red 2013, or 2014 auto 5.0 that was on street tires getting smoked by me in my white manual car, and he claimed his wouldn't spin out either, and looking back at the time-slips, he was running between 9.0, and 9.2, although he said he had an intake and tune from BAMA, and although he didn't mention it for some reason, he had to have exhaust parts too, because it was pretty loud to say the least.

On another note, when I was in Phoenix to visit my parents, and trade off my manual white car, I also drove a 2012 premium auto, and it felt identical to the one I got now. I never tried ripping the tires on it as the sales kid was with me, but I floored the piss out of it from like 15mph -85mph, and it felt similar. I wish I understood why it seems like theres certainly ringers in the auto Coyote world of Mustangs, but the three I've experienced all seem pretty similar, even the one with the intake, and tune???

Nothing wrong with his car. If he is in Wyoming at 6k+ feet with DA in the 8-9k range the car is taking a serious 25%+ power hit. Would be surprising if it dynoed over 300rwhp up there.

Oh, I didn't realize you were at such a high elevation.
Yeah, it's a good 'ol time, especially knowing that my cars generally need a power adder to post similar times to NA cars at or near sea level hahaha, oh well I guess. But the thing to remember is the guy in the lane next to ya is breathing the same "outer space" air as you and your car, and generally I don't do too badly against similar car with similar set-ups.....

Well, I have 4C on the way, along with a tune from Mike Rousch at Mid-Atlantic. Should be about 3 weeks out with the converter, so maybe next month I'll be able to post up some better numbers, fingers crossed!!

Thats what I'm running. Mike tune, circle D 4c. In ~4k DA it was a consistent 11.9 car. I'm happy. Drives great, runs great.

That's a respectable time I hope I can at least somewhat mimic it. Any other mods to get to that number aside from tires, tune, and converter??

Right on thanks for the input. I might hold off on the off-road mid-pipe and wait for the funds to go with long-tubes, and full exhaust..

I also went with the 5c instead of the 4c because of my lack of power up here in 8000+' DA
