You have to seal the back of the washer and the bolt. If you don't it will leak between the crank and hub.

Yes, it would leak from the front.Really?...oil seams to be leaking between the crank pulley and the timing cover. It's the not front seal as it looked fine when replacing the crank pulley.
Wouldn't the leak come out front of the crank pulley if I didn't RTV the washer?
Also even if I put some RTV when tightening the bolts the washer would keep turning and mushing all the RTV unevenly no?
