^^Thanks for your detailed info and advice. I'm not planning to beat the crap out of mine all the time, but I do want to be able to sometimes, lol. Lito tunes mine, I have no complaints at all with that. On the street I run NT05R's so they break loose pretty easy when I get on it. However I also have a set of Hoosier 275/60/15 DR's on Weld RT-S's for the track, I would like to be able to make a few passes without the fear of my tranny blowing up again! Oh well...I agree with you though, due to the lengthy parts list and cost for either alternative I'll probably take my chances with my Level 10 unit for now. If it goes, then I'll have a damn good reason to spend the $$$ money!

Makes perfect sense to me and that's why I am staying with what I have.
Other than it being sent back to TCI for a complete refurbish.
As Brent said it's up here so we might as well send the tranny to TCI while we have your Mustang.

As you say and what Brent and I discussed if the TCI goes then will address transmissions.

Actually, I need to clarify the article is NOT in the new MM&FF but rather the February 2015 issue of Race Pages. Sorry for any confusion. Interestingly enough the shop the did the install is JPC. Also, I actually do beat the crap out of my car most of the time when I'm driving it, lol! Hopefully my tranny will continue to hold up!

Thanks Terry. I'm interested to see the parts lists and pricing as well.

Hawgman & other interested Members,

As I said as soon as I heard back from JPC I would Copy & Paste that E-Mail here.

Is JPC Engineering not a Member on S-197 guys ???
I just looked at the Vendors list and did not see them listed unless I overlooked them .........

See below I just got that E-Mail.

Aaron,

I'm sure your company is a Supporting Member on S-197 so I have a better idea for you and your questions.
There are a number of members on S-197 that have a variety of questions regarding the two transmission swaps I inquired about.
I think in order to do this the very best way I'll send you the link to the on going thread on S-197.
That way all those interested can talk with you on posts.

Thanks,
Terry aka "tigerhonaker"

Subject: Trans Swap

Hey Terry sorry it took me a little while to get back to you, we've been busy here at the shop.
First question I have to ask is what are your reasons for looking to swap the transmission?
Are you having issues with your current setup? Are you looking to get a trans brake?
What kind of power does the car make as well?
What do you typically do with the car.
Sorry for all the questions just trying to spec this out for your specific build. --

Really ? I must of overlooked the pics and info regarding the install in this thread

I don't think there is any install on this Thread.

It's just a discussion on several transmissions.

The E-Mail I just posted above was from JPC.

After I posted that E-Mail I went and looked at the Vendor List here on S-197 and did not see JPC Engineering listed.
If they are not a Paid Vendor or even a Member then I suppose the discussion with JPC and us are over.

I has a TCI SSF for 500 mi. and the sol. bank went out. Brenspeed replaced it and 200 mi later I lost OD and R. TCI made good and sent a new SSF to them. 150mi later I got a flashing OD light and the engine light came on. I had enough and am having them put in a Level 10 and I hope they start doing a lot more with Level 10. Thank to George @ Brenspeed.

I personally think you are doing the right thing now trying the, Level-10 Transmission.

Terry

If that does not work the next move to me would be the 4R70 !!!

If you buy a Level 10 transmission you can come hang out with me in the why did I buy that fucking shit club. My stock trans lasted 8 yrs of abuse, my Level 10 trans lasted all of a few months. I recently took it out to swap a 4R70w in and took the level 10 to a local trans shop to have it inspected. It was just full of stock components they couldn't find any upgrades, what's worse is they didn't even do the TSB on the solenoid housing, no bushings were installed so the housing wouldn't wallow and let fluid past. The input shaft had twist so I don't even think they used a hardened shaft.

Good Luck..

Kurt,

That actually does surprise me as I have read so many positive comments on Level-10 transmissions.

Your experience with them definitely SUCKS !!!

I'm still running my 5R55 TCI SSF tranny and had it for years now with zero issues.
But, I don't run the crap out of it everytime I drive it.
Nor do I Drag-Race it very often which I think both of the above has contributed to it still working correctly.

Hey Terry,

I should of listened to what the general opinion of this form was on the 5R55S but it was early October when my stock trans let go and I wanted to make a few runs before the end of the year. I knew I didn't have time to do a swap so I searched out for a built 5R that I could get within a few weeks.

As much as I'm not happy with what I purchased, I do feel part responsible for the mess I got cause I wanted it before the end of the season and good judgement went out the window. It's a $4,000.00 stupid mistake but let my bad idea help others to stop and really think this one over.

The bad feeling started when the trans came in on a broken skid with a little piece of foam underneath the pan, a couple straps and a little stretch wrap is all it got to make the trip.

I spent $100.00 to have this trans torn down at a local trans shop and carefully looked at to see what's inside.

Didn't see any High Energy Red or Green Clutch Bands

Input shaft twisted, my other hardened shaft I used prior for years didn't twist.

No TSB done on the Servo bores. Zero bushings

Trans shops opinion is the Servo bores went out of tolerance and caused the servos to stick and band to tear up. This is the trans shops opinion, I wouldn't really know what caused this.

Well this is my 5R story thank god it's over, almost done with the 4R70W swap. Everyone may have different opinions and heard different things about said A or B company. This is just the actual experience I had as crappy as it is.

Kurt,

The last time I had mine at BRENSPEED I did discuss switching to the 4R70 with the fully automatic shifting.

But, after a lengthy discussion with Brent White (Brenspeed owner).
He suggested I keep the TCI SSF because it had the 5th gear overdrive for more street use.
Which happens to be 95% of what I actually use my Mustang for.

So, I decided to keep what I had as I had not had the 1st issue with it since it had been installed.
I did however have Brent/Brenspeed pull the TCI SSF and send it back to TCI for a (Complete) refreshing.

Still running it today and it's still operating as it should.

I will add this comment on the 5R55S trannies.
If you drag-race frequently and run Drag-Radials it or they TCI SSF or Level-10 will Definitely-Not-Hold-Up !!!

The above is not my opinion, it's a FACT they just cannot take Big Power & Torque over 500 at the ass end when raced frequently.

I hope you will do a thread on here when you make your change to the 4R70.

If so I would appreciate a PM with the New Link if you think about it.
