Any thoughts on this? Looking to swap out factory 3.55's to either one of those. Pros/cons for either appreciated. My 08 gt is a weekend warrior and looking to leave peeps in the dust when challenged at the light. But I also like going on long drives with my S192. Is the mileage negligible between the 2? Just looking for advice for 1 over the other.

Is the car automatic or manual?

Not sure if you will really notice a difference going from 3.55 to 3.73s. If you had 3.27s you would notice it going to 3.73.

Always manual in my book with the 3650

You don't kill this thread you grumpy fuck, forum is dead as it is.

4:10s, don't fear the gear. YOu'll regret going 3:73 when you realize how minimal the difference is.
Thanks, reading other similar threads, I came to the same conclusion.

I have a mostly stock 2014 Base Mustang GT with 3.31 gears and the usual manual transmission gears of 3.66, 2.43, 1.60, 1.32, 1.0 and .651. First gear has an overall 12 to 1 ratio. That is a lot when you look at my friends 69 Z28 with a 2.20 close ratio transmission with 4.88 rear gears. His overall ratio is about 11 to 1. My 4th gear is somewhat like his 4th drive gear. That is 4.33 vs 4.88. You would not want to take a long trip with his Z28.

I went from 3.55s to 3.73s in my ‘08 but I also had bolt-ons done at the same time so my view may be a little skewed.. I like the 3.73s personally, I had them from factory in my Bullitt too, but I could see the appeal in the 4.10s, go hard or go home I guess!

I went from 3:31 to 3:73 in my ‘08 GT/CS and often wish I had gone 4:10 (except 1st can be kinda useless because I never got my LCAs and relocation brackets put on).
I’m running 275 Nittos all around on 18x10 wheels.

4.30s for bolt-on NA
4.10s for hot NA, centrifugal blower, or nitrous
Stock gears for turbo or PD blower.

If you like drag racing at all you should really match the rear tire size and gear ratio to your target trap speed in 4th gear. Then the rest will fall into place.

I read someplace that 3.73 will hit the rev limiter a little over 60mph in first giving the best 0-60 times. Maybe true and maybe not. Then you never want to have to go into 5th just before the 1/4 finish line. Better to hit the rev limiter a few feet after the finish line.

there are so many variables in these cars to make this statement silly

IE - rev limiter?? - where is it set? 6250/6500/6700/7000????
Rear tire in use? 26? 27? 28?
Trap speed at the line?

Only an idiot would say this is silly. A "Rev Limiter" is very real on Coyote motors before 2015. Usually somewhere around 6800 plus or minus 50. I would like to set it up to about 7200 with an all stock tune. Any ideas??? The 2018's are around 7400 in stock form. Tire sizes for the Coyote Mustangs are in between 26 to 27 inches. I had 235 50 18s on my Base Mustang GT. Changed over to 255 45 18's Run Flats that are just ever so slightly smaller. Most of these Coyote Mustangs are doing between 12 and 13 seconds in the 1/4 and from 110 to 120mph. Now that depends on track temp tune weight and a whole lot of other things.

The OP is not running a Coyote, he has an ‘08 4.6
Thanks, I'm just trying to get the most out of my 4.6. I'm not looking to track it anytime soon. I just want to be competitive against whoever challenges me at a light.

I understand completely, I’m in the same place. I’ve only been to the strip once in mine in 9 years.
I have the 3650 and only saw about 1-2 mpg difference going from the 3:31 to 3:73 (manual hand calculation in various hwy/city scenarios) so I doubt you would see more than 2 mpg difference between 3:55 and 4:10

4.10's it is then! That's been predominantly the answer across multiple sources. Go big, or go home!
