Hey guys I’m pretty new to Mustangs and newer vehicles in general as the newest vehicle I’ve owned was a 96 Dodge Ram... therefore I’m not sure about tuning. I have an 07 gt at the moment on coilovers and I gutted the cats so it’s still stock exhaust but straight pipe (pls don’t make fun of me) but I’m tryna make more power. I see lots of guys go with bama for tuning but me being not experienced with this idk if I should go with that Lund racing nGauge or the bama tuner. Definitely getting a CAI soon tho. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks

Avoid American Muscle and Bama at all costs. If you allow yourself to be sucked in by the cheap price, you will regret it forever. Between those two, definitely Lund. There are other good options as well but Lund is fine.

It's a no brainer. Avoid BAMA.
If you want a custom tune, Lito is the best man for tuning the 3V.
Lund is very good too but nowadays he's more focussed on the Coyote/GT350/GT500 crowd.

Is there just more safe power gains from a Lund tune? What’s the difference? Besides the dope interface and style of the nGauge

The device doesn't matter. In fact, unless you just want to spend a ton, I'd suggest just getting an X4 and a quality tune from Lito (or other recommended tuner).

The Bama tunes have a terrible pedal feel (throttle on these cars are electronic). Their tunes are not calibrated specifically to your car, they are just fancy canned tunes.

Thanks for the info. I’m not looking to spend much at all on a tuner. But I’m also trying to get the most power out of it. I really like the way the nGauge looks and the simplicity of installing a tune. When I buy the nGauge do I get an email and give them my mods and they send me a tune?

I can't answer that, I have never dealt with an nGauge or Lund. With Lito, you give him your mods, he'll send a base tune, and then he'll have you datalog the car, and then he will send you revisions to the base tune to get the car fine tuned.

in general you provide a mod list and they will ship the tuner loaded with your tunes or email you files to upload to the device

I use BAMA tunes for years now, I have no experience with other. They changed the tune several times for my needs, especially the driver wish map was not good in their racing tune. Exept the pedal feel, whats the main difference between the Bama and Lund tunes?
Last time, after installation of charge motion delete plates, I got the tune, did several logfile runs, send it back and got a corrected tune from them. I told them to make the pedal as linear as possible, like a carburator. Worked good, but I have no comparison.
Thanks!

So on the topic of tunes I have a question and really didn’t want to start a new thread on it so sorry about the thread jack. I need some opinions on my cars tune. My car is a 2007 Roush Stage 3 with the VMP 500HP package which is basically smaller upper pulley CAI and plugs with the VMP tune. I don’t have a problem with the way the car runs at all but would it be worth getting another tune from someone else. Just wondering if they might be able to pull a couple more HP out of it. It runs super rich but no problem with it for 2 1/2 years. I’m really thinking about putting some headers on it then maybe a retune.

Why not just have VMP revise your current tune? As I'm sure they could squeeze a few more ponies for you. What you do is have VMP remote tune your car via data logging which will fine-tune your car without having to get another tune from someone else. Personally I really don't think it would be worth going to somebody else, to begin with anyhow, as VMP is highly regarded as one of the top tuners on this site. At any rate, I'd recommend giving Justin over at VMP a phone call and find out what he can work out for you.

I don’t have a problem with VMP and do agree that Justin would do fine. Like I said the current tune is great I just wondered if someone else might do better. Data logging would always be a better tune than the tune provided with the kit I’m sure.

Sometimes people just have to try something different for the sake of trying something different. My opinion is just that, my opinion. But I doubt you're going to find any top tier tuner to sell you a tune that's vastly improved over VMP. Some might have a bit more power with more risk, some might have less power and be more conservative. Some will behave better than others. Everything is a trade off.

But if it's running rich then by all means have VMP adjust it for you. Just that alone may give you the bump in power you're looking for. And you won't have to spend hundreds of dollars and lots of time dialing in a new tune.

Good advice I appreciate it. No I don’t want to throw a bunch of money away on needless tunes when I honestly don’t have a problem With it other than it seems to run pig rich and I would rather it be that way than lean. I always hear Lito and others mentioned so I was curious if it would make that big of difference. I went through countless tunes and tuners with the Lightning to get things right and don’t plan on doing that again.

Lito tunes 3v motors as good or better than anybody, but he was never able to get the software necessary to do the 4v 5.0 Coyote motors. Justin is the one who originally set Lito up with the SCT program to tune 3v cars.
