aftermarket shif knob?

I hope I'm posting in the right place I have and 2014 gt 6 speed first manual car I've owned wondering if aftermarkets really do anything besides look and feel different while shifting? Just wondering sorry if it's a noob question lol but like I said my first manual car I've owned thanks in advance!

MGW shifter was the best mod I've done to my car. Knob is usually just for looks, but you can get them weighted, which supposedly helps with shifting.

Look up “Twisted Shift Knobs” and you’ll find more shift handles than you need. Different sizes do feel different.

I know, it's a hard pill to swallow, but yes. Yes it is.

I would keep an eye out for a used shifter, I got mine for way less than $500.

Barton is another manufacturer that people like, but I haven't ran one.

I installed a resin knob because the stock one was so cold in the winter. The resin is nice and looks great.

Avoid aluminum ones, they are like grabbing the wrong end of a popsicle in the winter or the wrong end of a soldering iron in the summer.

So true, but you can’t get better control than an old school Hurst shift handle/knob.

I totally disagree. The shifter truly does the work, but the knob can be the difference between a missed shift and a win! The right knob gives you proper control.

Yes, think of how many times you shift the car every time you drive it. Why not spend some money on making that interaction with your car more satisfying?

I have a Barton, and I really like it. Was stiff when breaking in, but has gotten much better in not a lot of miles. Not a perfect solution to the hard shifts into 2nd and 3rd, but it works very well with very little NVH. If MGW had the taller and straighter flat stick, I may have gone with their latest design, but I really like the look of this one.

I've heard bad things about the Barton from others on other forums. But this being first manual I've owned I don't know much about shifters but heard about short throw shifters throughout the years.

When I had still had my TR3650, I had the Barton shifter and I really liked it. I did not miss any 3rd gear shifts with it at the track-with the stocker, I'd miss probably every 4th run if I was power shifting.

I now have an MGW Gen 2 (extended MGW handle and gripper weighted shift knob) with my TR6060 and it is the best shifting m/t I have ever driven.

First thing to go for me when I got my 2014 a couple years was the factory shift knob. Can only really grip it one way. Replaced with a sphere/ball shift knob. Feels so much better in my hand.

Had a Barton in my 2011, great shifter.
Haven't found a need to replace the shifter in my 14, but the knob had to go..

Seems to me it wouldn't be hard at all to fabricate a short extension piece above the hex nut shown and the shift knob proper.

I did that for the MGW I installed in my '08, and it made a huge difference in reduced notchiness. Being closer to the steering wheel was a nice side benefit.
