Doing Timing Chain.. Rear Jackshaft Bolt Wont Come Out…

Hello there,

I am trying to remove the timing chain components and the rear jackshaft bolt is in pretty tight. I tightened the front jackshaft pretty tight. wasnt sure of torque just hand tight about 50-60 ftlb. and i used an impact to remove the rear and what it does is that rear bolt spins the jackshaft causing the front to loosen. the jackshaft itself spins with rear bolt.

The other method I tried was using vice grip to chain holding it while removing the rear bolt. It didnt work. I slightly damaged the valve head area.

What should I do to remove the rear jackshaft bolt safely? Pictures below.

As crazy as it is, what brand tools are you using. I have seen this before at the dealership if the Tech has a less expensive quality tool. Does not bight into the socket head properly.

FYI: Some of these torx like looking bolts are in reality torx plus, like the two for the tank straps. If you use a torx bit instead you cannot transfer enough torque to the bolt. This 10.9 bolt is probably such a case.

Using Harbor Freight Pittsburgh T55 Torx head. It fits pretty snug and tightly... just no bite like all the way but it still turns, not strip.

Never heard of torx plus... I thought it was just regular T55

Not surprised, my local hardware store also never heard of it. I think it is comparable to hex and 12pt bolts. A M10 hex head size is bigger than M10 12pt head size. TP can deliver more torque than TX at the same size. TX is sharp and bends TP is stub. I once destroyed a TX bit inside a TP head and noticed the difference.

bought a Torx Plus. It didnt fit. I was devastated.

just like my previous problem when a bolt is stuck, I heat it up really hot and use an impact to to zing it off. First try didnt work, was about to give up but I said one more try…
