Plan on going to 20x10.5" wheels with 305 30 20 tires on the rear. Wheels like the forgestar F14 are sold with a 40mm offset. Will this be enough to avoid the wheel hitting the fender when the car bottoms out or should I look for more offset?

From my understanding, you're going to get some tire poke with that setup. Not sure if that translates to any rubbing on the fender lip or not and it may come down to exactly which 305 tire you run.
I would mount a tire on an adjustable wheel fitment tool before commiting to an offset that agressive.

You would be better off with something around +45 or more to tuck it to the inside further. Otherwise depending on the ride height of the car you might be in to massaging the fender lips/

I have 295 x 40 x 19'' on 19'' x 11'' wheels ,no rubbing at all! I did have to install an adjustable Panhard bar and adjust it to the passenger side a 1/2'' . I have noticed that a lot of s197 set to the drivers side in stock forum. I have over 3/8'' room on the outside of both wheel and tires. I have a lot of room on the inside of the wheels and could go 12'' wide wheels with out any problems with a 305 x 40 x 19'' or 20'' wide wheel. I had four adults in my car and did not rub or bottom out with stock ride height!

I have 20x10.5 CF5"s with Nitto 305/35/20s on it, no rubbing.

I don't know what offset I got when I bought them, whatever was recommended by them, it was 10 years ago.

That tool was a winner for me when I went 18x11 in the rear with a 315 set up.
