Hey everyone, I installed a 2007 motor into my 2005 Mustang. I’m at a point where I want to start the car if only to move it into and out of the garage. I tried to start it and while it turns over, it doesn’t start. Doing a little research suggest I may have to do some pinout changes or even use the 05 injectors, alternator, possibly some sensors. Honestly, it’s a bit over my head. I am using the 05 ECU and already installed a tune as the 07 motor has Detroit rocker cams and headers. The the 07 motor also came with a transmission. (Automatic)

i have an 09 and got an 05\06 motor ,and it was plug and play,, and yes the injectors were the old style on the 05 motor and it works fine,, no re-pin or anything.

so im assuming you either missed a plug or have a kill switch hit,,
the only kill switch is buy your left foot in the footwell against the driver side..

fuel \air\spark

its not getting one or more...

Thanks for your input. I’m told I’ll need to use my 05 engine harness to make it work.

whoever told you that,, do yourself a favor and dont take the advice ..it fake news

the harness and connectors are the same for the 05 to the 09 ,, the 2010 might be the exact same as well , but that im not sure of, but wouldnt see why not when its the same motor,

infact now that you have an 07 motor ,, you can get rid of all that extra coolant pipes because the 07 and up have the new fewer coolant lines coming out the heads with the updated coolant piping

**the 05 and early 06 motors had different injectors (but same plug)

*** and different spark plug boot and plugs (either can but used as long as the plug\coils match
* still the same wiring harness plug

the old style coolant pipes 05/06 and the new fewer coolant pipes (07 and up)
still can be interchangeable

there is absolutely no repining of any connector with this swap.
when i got my new motor it had the old injectors on , and the lito tune had my 09 injectors on ,, it ran fine no problems

so again ,, something is wrong, check for fuel /air/spark

My 05’ has an oil temp sensor on the pan whereas the 07’ and newer do not, so that might be an extra wire not sure if there are any other differences but that shouldn’t cause a starting issue.

yes mine did as well , too bad its in the wrong spot to tap for the oil for the turbo im putting in then..

my harness (09) had no connector for that oil plug ,, so its just there

I’m the one who gave that advice. The pin outs at the fuse box connector and how the pcm gets power is different. He tried to use the 07 engine harness

ok you are correct,,
i misunderstood what he was asking.,,
i thought he had the same harness installed in car and just put a new year motor in ..

the pinouts are different which is why i had to fix my donor copart car rather then put everything over to my untouched 06 ,, which is what i wanted to to but didnt want the hassle of the pinning..

and im assuming this is a v6 to v8 swap?
No. I bought a car with a bad automatic transmission to build into something nice. I bought a 2007 Mustang GT motor and automatic transmission to replace both in my 2005. I use the 2007 motor transmission and engine harness… Therein lies the problem.

05 Harness is off the old engine. I’ll clean it up tomorrow morning and get it ready to install. Still need to remove the 07 harness. Thanks everyone for your input, including Matt James.

Interesting. I have a 06 GT. I put in a 09 gt engine and transmission. I used my original harness. No need to change pins or whatever. I did however had to swap the oil pan as there is a connector there. So used my 06 oil pan. I also had to use the 06 TB as the car didn't like the 09 one. I also managed to swap the exhaust sensors by accident. So I had to swap them back. There is also a plug on the drivers side near the fire wall that I forgot to plug in. After do that it ran like a champ.

Ive got my harness off the 05 engine and cleaned up and ready to install on the 07 motor which is in the car. I’ve got an auto trans and there are several plugins on it. I can’t get to most of them so I’m hoping I can drop the trans crossmember enough to gain enough access. If not I’ll have unbolt the damn k member and drop it all several inches. I swear my use of the f word has gone up exponentially since I started this project.

yes use the old harness thats on the body and you are golden ..
sorry i was confused on what you were doing at first..

i too have used the F-word alot when working on my car,,, its the gift that keeps on giving lol ..
you can see my posts ,

ive had a valve drop into an engine and cost me a new one,

a spark plug repair that was botched before i got the engine and now im putting on a new head,

wheel bearing went out

rack and pinion is acting up,

i had to keep retightening my exhaust untill it finally lined up right with zero rattle or leaks ,

valve covers had 2 stripped cop mounts

and lets not forget the constant fighting when i redid the rear end

.. its a love hate kinda thing
