It's a confusing noise only way I'll know is when I take the cover off this week end I don't think it will make any sense otherwise.Hmmm...interesting.
Wonder if it could be my vct solenoid I bought them off American muscle and realize they are dorman (ie junk)It almost sounds like a solenoid/relay click.
Yeah I'll have to do that, those vct solenoids seemed junky I installed brand new ones on both sides I shoulda just bought OEM if it ends up being that imma be flabbergasted.Swap the VCT and see if the noise transfers to the passenger side.
Might be able to tell by disconnecting them both. If unplugged they should not make a noise? But I have to say, I don't know if the vct solenoids make any noise ever. I was thinking something external, but on that side of the motor.Yeah I'll have to do that, those vct solenoids seemed junky I installed brand new ones on both sides I shoulda just bought OEM if it ends up being that imma be flabbergasted.
Yeah I'm puzzled, it always sounded like it was the exhaust to me but not sure when I pull the cover I'll check the rockers, anyone know if it's easy to tell ? I imagine they'd be lose or worn looking than the others. Not entirely sure how to verify if one is bad probably won't be functional like the rest but the noise is so inconsistent, for the whole drive it didn't make a peep.Might be able to tell by disconnecting them both. Another, BUT.....a single rocker or a bad adjuster making that noise every now and then might sound just like that. The clack could very well be that noise inside the hollow die-cast valve cover. I have tapped on a valve cover that wasn't on the motor and it had a similar tone or resonate to it. Different than regular aluminum.
If its sticky needle bearings, it might be hard to tell in place. The roller is always in contact with the cam lobe (should be!). A bad adjuster would allow for the rocker to bounce around and might be pretty obvious. If you push down on the adjuster side of the rocker it shouldn't really move. Push down really slow and the adjuster plunger will compress.Yeah I'm puzzled, it always sounded like it was the exhaust to me but not sure when I pull the cover I'll check the rockers, anyone know if it's easy to tell ? Background noise, I'll be changing all the rollers and lash adjusters if I find anything abnormal. Just trying to fully understand what I might be looking at needing to do, car runs so good it's confusing but I'm also switching back to 5w-30 because I felt like the car exhibitted a lot less noises and felt smoother on that oil thicknessIt almost sounds like when you pop a roller into place? id inspect under that cover. Is that whining sound towards the end of the video (bit like a siren) from the engine? or a background noise?
Yes have always run on 5/30 before and after I overhauled the engine last year. It purrs so quiet I just sit and listen to it with the bonnet open sometimes for tranquillityBackground noise, I'll be changing all the rollers and lash adjusters if I find anything abnormal. They call that 'motortation'.Yes I run on 5/30 and after I overhauled the engine last year. It purrs so quiet I just sit and listen to it with the bonnet open sometimes for tranquillity![]()
in that video , was the engine running?
if so , im going with its electrical (solenoid or some electric that clicks
if that were a bad bearing on the roller follower it would make that noise all the time, constantly.
not to mention if it was stuck it would prolly cause issues running .
maybe ,, just maybe a bearing on a roller follower has a lot of play and every now and again it kicks to one side making that noise ( if thats the case it will throw the roller follower sooner than later ..)
so regardless id crack open the valve covers and make sure all is good to be safe,..
The engine off .. no way it's a roller follower ..Engine was off in video, with engine on it doesn't do that 99.9% of the time. Car is parked till I pull the cover and imma if it's not obvious run the car with the cover off to identify the issue. P sure it's a roller follower so imma replace all of them and lash adjusters to be safe.
Yeah it confuses the fk outta me bc of that, soon enough we will all know I got no idea what it truly is either, I won't be driving her till I know. The engine off .. no way it's a roller follower ..
It makes no sense how it could click when the engine isn't on?
Unless the pressure of the cam lobe pressing the roller follower makes it kick or move once the compression bleed off some?
I'd still remove the valve covers just to be sure u won't destroy the engine . But it seems odd it does it with the engine off ..
To be safe id remove the valve covers and hand crank the engine and just make sure the roller followers are sitting still and nothing is amiss
If the car wasn't running, its 99.99999% certain it is not a rocker or adjuster.Engine was off in video, with engine on it doesn't do that 99.9% of the time.
