Seems decent any recommendations for cam followers etc I was just going to get the Ford racing kit if I have to replace one and do them all. Would it be worth replacing the lashers as well ?
Here is the thread that I kind of took over with my timing components/lash adjusters/rocker/oil pump replacement.
I need to edit some stuff on the oil pump info to remove some info I had wrong, but the rest of it should be good.

There are part numbers and pics galore.
I have 240k on my motor, so I figured if I was going in I was going to do it all.
I used nearly all Ford parts. The exceptions were the timing chains tensioner seals, vct solenoids seals, and, eventually, the oil pump. And its not exactly cheap. With all Ford, you are looking at $1400, more if you get the timing cover like I did. Or need to buy certain tools (like a halfway decent calibrated in/lb torque wrench, which I needed to).
Aftermarket parts seem to have a spotty reputation and the cheaper it is, the more questionable. If the brand name looks like leftover letters in a Scrabble game....move on.

And there are some updates and revised part numbers for the Ford parts. So if you buy off Ebay/Amazon/Facebook/some guy, make sure you are getting the latest version.

How many miles are on your motor? Has anything on that list been replaced already?

155k , its had all the timing components replaced, vct solenoids and seals replaced, the oil pump i am not sure about but i would imagine it also has been replaced when they did the timing job [before i owned it] that i am not certain about but i definitely cannot do that at my apt complex i would have to pay someone to do that job. I have all the tools i would need as i did the cam job , really dreading messing with the cams again but if it has to be done it has to be done. Typically, i only buy my parts on CJ Pony or LMR I've bought small things from american muscle but i don't tend to shop there. I would share more pictures of my car but all my photos are too big apparently, I just installed my simp fog light ducts too.

Pic is from my trip when i was driving from PA to MO at a rest stop, wasnt nearly as bad when i drove my Forte GT down and i had like 500000 smashed bugs on the front of it.

I also don't think you linked the thread you had spoke of either, I feel like Ford Racing is a trusted name for OEM replacements with upgrades, but i could be wrong.

Yep, failed to link, but JC SSP got it. I have one on the oil pump, as well, but I am not done writing up a summary. Quite a bit of information I want sort out.

Depending on my findings ill probably just go with the ford racing kit, when I installed my cams I walked down the tower bolts gently in sequence to not have to do it probably a painful way. But i imagine another way exists that could be safer what tool do i need to buy to do that if you know.

155 isn't bad. I got mine at 120k and have had 120k pretty much trouble free miles since then. But I don't flog it.

There are a couple other sources. Ford Parts Giant, Tasca Parts, Group1 (on Amazon, part of a Ford dealer) and even Ford. Ford Parts Giant/Tasca are interesting as they are accessing the same parts database (I think) and you can search by your vin as to what parts fit your car. Everything is by Ford part number and it shows the superceded numbers as well. You can see what parts are discontinued and current prices on available parts. Usually cheaper than the retail guys. And alot of stuff not available from retail sites. Like all those torque to yield bolts.....

I like Concept style hoods. Thought about getting one at one point.

If you've recently moved here, you are just in time for the miserable hell we call summer!

The Ford Racing kit is the way to go. Adjusters and rockers. About $400.
Plus two new TTY cam bolts.

According to the Ford manual, you completely remove the front cam caps (the big ones that have the groove for the cam 'flange') before loosening anything else. That groove is fragile and several people have cracked them doing what you described. And you generally can't just swap another cap on as they were machined in place.

I'll find the thread i posted on the tool I used. It is a copy of the factory tool.
I went the tedious complicated way as I had the timing cover off too. No pressure on the cams or cam caps.

Mind you, I am far from being an expert on these cars. I have some knowledge and some experience. And occasionally, the two intersect.

3V Rockerarm Tool OEM Brand | S197 Mustang Forum - S197Forum.com https://share.google/cSPAwTrmgIpPBnOxT

I used that tool approximately 60 times (remove 6 rockers to take pressure off the cam lobes, 24 times putting all the rockers in....and then did it all over again!) with no real issues...until the very last one and the valve didn't move with the spring and retainer. Thankfully I caught it before yhe keepers could come out and drop the valve.

I love it here, honestly it ain't so bad i visited nearly all last summer , I moved in the winter so i been here for approx 6 months now but that is pretty recent for a full move and yes... i know about cracking the front cap as my dumbass over torque'd it one time and i bought three sets of caps and one of them fit and worked flawlessly like my first one.

I do love my hood i need to get it painted though the carbon fiber is meh [its real] it has functional intake vents that route directly to the corner for fresh air to the intake which is nice.

I'll probably just do it the same way i did it before since i lack a garage to work inside of and ill be honest working out in the parking garage is a pain in the ass ill just take it nice and slow like i did the 2nd time after i learned my lesson [it honestly took a lot of torque to break the cap]'

I wonder if that cap caused my issue lol that'd be interesting if that ended up being the culprit of all of this and im screwed but i guess ill find that out later.

Thanks for the help maybe we could cruise sometime since your close.

As long as we get an early heatwave, you get used to that, then the normal temps don't feel quite as bad. The humidity is the killer. Last year actually wasn't too bad.
On the plus side, there are some great roads to play on. Some decent scenic drives in the fall with the colors. And a fair number of car events. I think there is an all Ford show coming up. Every Friday there is an informal gathering at the Sonic in Kirkwood. 50-100 cars, all years and makes.
I'm usually up at Sonic. Mostly us s197 guys are older 50-70. A couple Shelbys and GT500s floating around.
Usually something going on in St. Charles, which puts you really in the middle.
Late September in Springfield IL is the Mother Road festival. Friday thru Sunday. 1200plus cars. Only 2 hours away. Apparently there is a gathering on the IL side of the Chain of Rocks Bridge 8am that Friday and they caravan to Springfield.
Lots to do. A few junkyards (not many 3v motors in Mustangs, they get pulled, but usually some in Explorers).
Etc.

It's possible the cap has something to do with it, but I'd look at affected by either oil pressure or heat expansion or both.....that doesn't really narrow it down much, does it?

I'll have to check for that manual thank you and also for the shop recommendation I've been trying to find a shop to work on it but all the stuff I've looked up no luck tried so many locations. I've done quite a bit of stuff to her so far but I try to take caution with engines I don't particularly fully understand especially not having my own garage anymore.

Here's an online manual if you don't mind dealing with advertising links: https://iihs.net/fsm/?d=0

Yeah I doubt it's the cap car ran fine for months with 0 issue, even now it hardly exhibits a issue, I think it's related to the oil and most likely a stuck roller I can hear the noise directly in the center of the valve cover when I checked days ago. I'll have to get into going to some of the meets some time once she's back up, I work in St Charles which normally I daily it to work. Luckily I have multiple vehicles so it isn't a issue parking it for the well being of the engine. If somehow something bad happens to it honestly ide probably 5.0 swap it at that point or do a full 4.6 build crank up, I also considered just going to a 2016+ mustang gt but I really like the look and sound of the s197 it's unique. I think it's oil pressure effected like your thinking combined with heat.

I think it may been mentioned earlier, the injectors can get noisey as they get older, too. More of a clicking sound than a tapping sound. They make noise anyway, but it can get worse.

My sympathies on working in St. Charles. None of those bridges is fun, even outside of rush hour.

Yeah it definitely isn't them, I wish it was. But I can tell there's a abnormal noise and yes your correct lol I get off at 4-5 and sometimes it's a nightmare getting home having to re route to another bridge

It sounds more like a heating and contracting noise but from the middle of the valve cover

Can you record it and post it?

It used to be a real nightmare before the 370 and 340 bridges....just the one on 70.

Imma take it out right now and see if i can warm it up enough to have the noise stay so i can actually record it.

Usually, i don't have too many issues with the bridges thankfully but unfortunately if its a wreck im screwed since i have only two options to get home lmao ,
