I remember when they tried that on a 2001....after awhile the wind ripped it off into the windshield. Use caution as it wasnt designed for that.

I did this several years ago to my B9 scoop. Its MUCH larger than the stock one, and i cut a much larger hole.

I honestly haven't noticed that much water in there at all. I think the grille on the scoop prevents alot of it from flowing up the hood since there's 3M holding down the bottom of the scoop-grille to the hood. Although after driving for a little bit, I can see the heat radiating out of the scoop. I haven't taken actual before & after temp readings, but visually you can see A LOT of heat escaping.

Maybe I'll tape it off this weekend and try to get some readings if I can.

Yeah i can see it letting heat out at a stop for sure, im wondering more about driver as its gonna force air in and the hot air is just goping to escape mostly out the bottome of the car but the cooler air coming in the scoop should still help with temps i would think.

I would need to fnd a black billet grill to fit the oem hood scoop.

How I did mine... It's survived some pretty heavy rains with no issues other than a little extra housekeeping.

I made my stock hood scoop functional a couple years ago. I removed the entire front faux grill from the scoop and made my own grill from aluminized material so it won't rust. I didn't cut out as much of the hood, but it still keeps the engine a bit cooler....

definitely doing this, this weekend!! I have the roush scoop....all i know is i got my matco tools qikscan and i can get live data streaming...the IAT is ridiculous so ill do a test where i tape it and a test with it open on the same day and same speed to give a difference...

didn't have a chance to tape it off...but i did run live mod on my scan tool and at 55mph the IAT was 68 degrees...ambient air was 63 degrees so only 5 degrees warmer than the outside air!! Good free mod guys...

Also worth noting, I shimmed the back of my hood up with a couple flat washers on each hood hinge bolt to let the underhood air out at the base of the windshield. Coupled with the functional hood scoop, it really keeps underhood temps down.
