Need a new clutch- what else do I need

I plan to put a new clutch in the car this winter, and want to begin researching them now. Looking at Centerforce, Spec, or Fidanza; likely the Centerforce unit with factory flywheel.

What else should I be looking at? New slave cylinder? Are there any specifics that I need to know before I purchase a clutch? I mean, will any '05+ clutch work with my trans?

Thanks.

Go ahead and do the flywheel while you have the tranny out, or you'll kick yourself later. Get the 6bolt Fidanza flywheel and a Centerforce or Spec clutch and you'll be glad you did!

That's what I got from PMP, although I can't comment on it since it's not installed yet. And also a new stock slave cyl.

I'm gathering that stock is 10 spline so a clutch for a 10 spine shaft would work..... correct me if I'm wrong.

About a flywheel- how do I know until I get into it if I need a 6 bolt or an 8 bolt??

yeah stock is 10 spline & 99.9% you will have a 6 bolt crank. as far as changing out the fly wheel - I did & regret it since the aftermarket spec flywheel doesn't absorb all the engine noise. I'm even getting rid of my second spec 2+ clutch because I don't like the chatter & the heavy pedal (which wore the slave out). I'm going back to a stock type clutch (RAM - reboxed Valeo - the OEM Mfg) & the stock flywheel along with a new slave cylinder. also its a good idea to replace the pressure plate bolts & flywheel bolts & pilot bearing. part numbers:
1R3Z6375EA - Flywheel
F6ZZ6379AA - Bolt (6)
N808969S100 - Bolt (6)
4r3Z7a508AA - Slave Cylinder
F6ZZ7600A Pilot Bearing

How about learning to drive it right and you won't screw the clutch up:thud:

If you use a 8 bolt flywheel do you need a special cluch or will any 05 cluch work with it?

The only thing that changes with an 8 bolt flywheel is the number of bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. The pressure plate bolt pattern remains the same. So any '05+ clutch will work.

Thanks Kevin, I was looking at the Fidnaza cluches as what I'd put in till I save enough to put in a TR6060 or T56 (Don't plan on this one for at least another year). I'm thinking the Fidanza GT 3.2 or 4.3 would hold me over till I'm ready to put in a better trans with out breaking the bank.

Tom - We just don't have enough time to get everything on the website, shoot me a PM when you decide what you want and I'll get you a price for it.

If you don't have a built motor, you'll need a 6bolt. If you've built a motor, then you'll need an 8bolt.

There is SLIGHTLY more NVH transferred in to the cabin with the lightweight flywheel, but definitely not enough to make me, or 99% of the people who mod their cars want to return their car to stock. If you want a fast car with a quality clutch and flywheel, go for it. If you want a quiet smooth car with no NVH, sell your Mustang and buy a Lexus.

No built motor, so 6 bolt it is then. I'm not worried about noise from the flywheel; I couldn't hear it anyway over my exhaust and stereo. I've read and been told that drivability suffers somewhat from a lighter flywheel- what's your thoughts?

Aluminum Flywheel:

Pros - Lower inertia

Cons - Lower inertia

Basically the weight of the flywheel gives it both positives and negatives. The motor will rev quicker because it is spinning less weight, it will also come down quicker which means the car will need a little more throttle to keep the revs up leaving a light. It won't shock the tires as hard on a clutch dump so it's less likely to spin, but that makes it more prone to bog. It will show slightly more power to the tires, just like an aluminum driveshaft will. I would reccomend raising your idle speed slightly especially with the a/c on as the compressor cycling will cause the motor to bog down some.

With all of that said, they are fine in a DD, I have one in my car.
