Flow testing on the factory air inlet on the new 5.0 cars. Nevermind the top set of flow numbers. Check out the difference between the 2010 air intake and the 2011 air intake at the bottom of the chart.

Seems the 2010 air intake flows better due to the location and orientation of the throttle body. This will be one area of the 2011 that will benefit greatly from an aftermarket CAI. Lee at C&L stated their new 2011 CAI will flow over 1100 cfm at a minimum and working on getting 1200 out of it.

Phew, the stock tube is a teency little straw compared to a 1200cfm C&L. Can't wait to see what numbers that'll do!

But everyone said the '11s are maxxed out from the factory :roflmao:

The heads are maxed out from the factory, and the intake is a very good design. The intake tube is external to the engine and was thus not part of the purview of the engine designers. The tube was likely designed by people whose mantra was "how can we do this as cheaply as possible?"

So yes, an intake tube upgrade will likely benefit quite a bit.

On an unrelated note: I find it somewhat disturbing that this forum has not one, but two smilies in the "default smiley" section related to beating dead horses. In fact, that is probably the most violent cross-section of smilies I think I've ever seen. Alcoholism, ass-kissing, suicide, and a Rochambeau... very grisly! I like it!

Actually, the intake tubing was designed in conjunction with the intake manifold....which is part of the overall engine design team. However, they did the best they could given the space they had to work with, the time frame/deadline, and monetary restrictions.

Didn't that 29 page article say ford tried a bunch of different cold air intakes and had 0 to minimal gains?

Within their engineering and budgetary restraints. The aftermarket is not constrained by interior noise limitations or bean counters.
