I'm debating between Nitto 305/40/18's and 315/35/18's. I know the 315's will be shorter and give me a different gearing setup, but the 305's are taller and will make me need more gear. I don't drive this car everyday and save it for sunny and warm days. Which would you guys go with? They are both around the same price but I can't decide if I want wider with shorter or not as wide and higher...

305 is plenty, the taller sidewall will help you to hook-up better.

IMHO, not a fan of nitto's, but if you insist, I'd say opt for a bit more sidewall.

IMO, tall tires on 18" wheels looks goofy. Go with the 315's.

40 is not tall at all.
I have 50's on my car...

With 18's you need to fill the gap in the wheel well.

It depends whats more important to him, looks or hooking up?

You can still hook up on a 35 series DR...

If you want to fill the gap just lower the car!

Got a pic of those 50's?
