If you are fucking up your belts that quickly, I'd think something wasn't aligned correctly. I am using a slightly bigger blower pulley (3.5"), but I am still on my first belt with the stock tensioner for 2 years now and a couple hundred or so passes at the track.

The lack of belt dust tells me you are not slipping that much. If there is a lot of black dust which I just can't see in the pic, then you do have a belt slip problem.

The problem I had with mine I pointed out with arrows above. That small black bracket needs to be moved as far back as you can. It kind of looks like the inside of the belt may be making contact there.

Also, I used the BGG 8-rib kit up to 18-20psi and it worked good, so if you determine you do have belt slip, that 8 rib kit will fix it. Also use the Gates K081223HD belt if you go the 8 rib route. If you have a larger a/c delete pulley or a larger balancer (10% over) you may need the K081265HD belt.

The belt drives were born from 2 back to back broken belts at the track on our whipple car was that due to the length of the belt it would actually snap due to the sudden rpm changes between shifts. I'm simplifying a bit, but you might be aligned just fine, and it's just the nature of your use vs. an inherant design flaw with the long belt.

Looks like alignment to me. In my case it was the ps pulley that gave me issues.

Can you elaborate? Was your ps pulley misaligned from the factory? or had you taken it out/not reinstalled it correctly?

Thanks alot for the help, that makes alot of sense, I will try adjusting that today. I ended up ordering another 6 rib belt to give it one last shot after adjusting my alignment, so hopefully I can get it all sorted out.

^that seems like it does happen, i drive the car pretty hard so the belt could def be jumping during shifts. I would love to have an excuse to get the steeda drive, but I won't be able to till i get some forged internals.

I would lean towards an alignment issue, as mentioned earlier if the belt was slipping you would see belt dust. I have had no issues with my whipple, have you talked with anyone from whipple to get their input?

make sure a fresh belt is completely on all the idlers, I had an issue with the 100mm that came with the whipple kit... it's a POS...the bearing wasn't positioned in the pulley properly and the belt wasn't completely on the pulley surface. It eventually sheared a rib off of the belt on the motor side. Make sure you have proper tensioner tension on the belt also...after belt break in adjust it again.

I wish I new the answer. My car had 11k miles when I installed the Whipple and I did not touch the PS pulley. Regardless I had shred two belts within 1000 miles. I looked at alignment and started with the PS pulley using a straight edge. I appeared to have been pressed on a touch too far. I pulled the pulley out until it was even with a straight edge and did not have any further problems for the next couple thousand miles. I have since gone with a 8-rib set up.

although I do not have the alignment problem I have read quite a bit on it. A member on another forum swears by this tool. http://www.amazon.com/Gates-LAZ91006-Lazer-Drive-Alignment/dp/B000FMO1HG

Its a laser alignment tool specifcially for pully allignment. Another person checked allignment with a piece of mason string (doesnt stretch much). Tie it up tight on a rib of the crank pulley and criss cross it around the varous pulleys. Many people have found the power steering pulley to be off and needs to be pulled in or out. I think it's just pressed on and you need a pulley puller/ installer to move in or out.

I had a similar issue when I installed my whipple. Called Whipple to help figure it out and it was explained to me the belt is so long that it stretches with rpm from centrifugal force which causes the tensioner to max out and in turn makes the belt loose which will cause it to jump off the pulley. When the rpm's come back down the belt shrinks back and if its on the edge of the pulley it'll eat off that side. To fix the problem I had to max out the tensioner and slide the adjustable pulley as far down as it would go. Whipple also sent me 2 90mm idler pulleys to help take up more slack. Never ate another belt since.

Ok so today i tried to "pull out" the blower. Didnt really want to move much (as i figured) but i made an attempt. I also unbolted and readjusted the small idler that psfracer suggested. I am waiting on a new belt to arrive and will see how that goes.

Ill check out the alignment on the ps pump too, sounds like it could be my problem. I know belt tension is not a problem because when i released the tensioner today it moved at least 2 inches up more from its position when the belts were tight.

If all else fails, gi joe ill be pm-ing you lol. Anyone know if an 03 cobra 8 rib 3.4 whipple pulley will work with BGGs 8 rib kit? I can get one of those easily and hopefully save a little loot.

I run a Cobra 3.4 8-rib pulley on my gen II. But I do not know if it is the same as an '03.

Yes it will work with my kit.

I sheared off the rib closest to the engine due to a water pump bearing that went bad.

Question, the ribbed idler right side of engine next to the steering pump, does that wobble? I have heard of two other gents that thier pulley wobbles (one was a new one from ford). Any help would be great?

I was wonding if the wobbling pulley started my water pump bearing to go bad.
