I have this weird noise coming from the front of the engine. I had the noise a while back but it was few and far between. Since then I’ve put underdrive pulleys, a belt tensioner, and a new belt. And the noise started getting worse and worse. I thought it was the idler pulleys so I replaced all three. Went away for a bit then came back and won’t go away. I took my belt off to see if it was from one of the other pulleys and nope, still there. It isn’t there for the first few seconds of startup, whether hot or cold. Then comes back and doesn’t stop. Manual 2010 Gt if that matters

My buddy is thinking it might be a worn timing chain as I’ve also been having some misfires, not very much, just enough to through a check engine light here and there. I thought it was because I might’ve had a leaky intake gasket as I’d had it off and wasn’t able to replace it at the time. Does that sound like a worn or damaged timing chain to anyone else?

So with no belt on the engine, it makes that noise?

Sounds a bit like you lost a rocker arm. I would start by pulling a valve cover and checking all of them. If you can determine if it is louder on one side than the other, that would help. It may very well be a timing chain issue. The frequency is throwing me off a bit. Not real sure.

Figured it out, apparently the bolt that came with my underdrive pulleys was just to install the crank pulley. The instructions don’t make it as clear as I feel they should, that you’re supposed to reuse the old one. Which I had to go get a ridiculously expensive bolt because I tossed the old one thinking the kit provided a replacement one. Thankfully it didn’t cause any issues. Essentially the washer was just grinding on the crank pulley a bit sometimes. Still a little confused as to why I had it a bit before doing the pulley’s, best guess is that was from my idler pulleys.
