Saturday I took my '05 to Cecil County for the first time on the Stroker Motor. 3.55 gears and Nitto NT05R 285/40/R18 out back. 597 rwhp 540 torque on JPC's dyno on 93 octane. I did 3 runs, first with 15 psi on the radials and a 4000 rpm launch hitting it pretty hard just to break the ice and go for it. The tires were spinning through 1st gear for the duration and I ended up shifting at 4800 to get out of that shit. I missed 3rd gear and still managed 11.75 @122mph with a lame ass 1.823 60 ft.

Second run I dropped the pressure to 14 psi and launched again at maybe 3500 rpm's hitting the clutch a little less aggressively and still the tires spun through 1st even worse and I managed a 11.85 @126.02 mph with a lame as hell 2.073 60 ft.

On the last run I dropped the tire pressure to 12-13 psi and launched at about 3000 rpm's after a super healthy 2nd gear burnout where the tires really heated up good and let out much more smoke. I got an 11.436 @127.75 mph and a still lame ass 1.851 60 ft. It spun hard through 1st, but I let her rip to at least 6000 rpm's hit 2nd cleanly and spun at least 12-15 ft, hit 3rd at 7500 rpm's and clean. I'm crossing the 1320 in 3rd gear at 7500 rpm's. (3.55 gears)

Anyway, these NT05R's are IMO highly recommended for street use as they are very compliant on the highway and super quiet. Traction is great for a car with this power for the street at 32 psi, but on the track, at least with my car's power....they DO NOT cut it. Maybe it's because they are 18's, but I should have been deep into the 10's with the proper meats.

Congrats! I want to know why you weren't at the JPC track rental if you had your car tuned by JPC?

The rear suspension has been lowered 1'', J&M lowers, Steeda relocation brackets, J&M adjustable upper, adjustable panhard. I've got the lowers angled slightly down from front to rear. Stock shocks.

I wasn't at the JPC track rental Saturday because We had a party at the house for a family member which had been planned way in advance. Cecil county is very close and I just wanted to take advantage of the good weather. JPC's event was a good hour and a half away. I'd like to have been there because they are some good guys. Justin has always been the best to deal with for parts and shit. Kevin MacDonald is a good bud too. I feel bad for not going, but it wasn't possible.

Care to elaborate? I mean, I'm not about to launch at idle speed. I want to let it rip and it just seems like I'm expecting too much from 18'' tires with 597 rwhp.

I think maybe you are expecting too much from an 18" drag radial. With your power level it's gonna be hard for a DR with that short of a sidewall to hook with a stick car. Get some 15" wheels and a bias ply tire and you will be golden! Just my opinion. :thumb:

That's what I knew I would hear. The truth! I would never trade the NT05R's where the street is concerned though...they really are an impressive street tire because they look right, feel great and hook well considering the power. They just are not going to hang on a 4000 rpm launch. I'll need to get the proper meats before heading back which means wheels too. Maybe this fall.

I'm really debating these in 285/40 or a set of 275/45 M&H. 18". Very tough choice but I'm leaning nitto still. Car sees the track once in a blue moon and the street is where it roams most of the time. I'd be happy if I can just roll into first gear and stab it without spin on the street.

You have to slip the clutch more, if you let the clutch out to quick its just going to spin the tires. Just have to find the right balance of feeding in the throttle and letting the clutch out. Just keep practicing. Nice times anyway even without a great 60'. But as the other guys said a 15 inch rim and drag radial would be alot easier. Also going down to 12 lbs of air in an 18 inch drag radial probably isnt helping you.

Just trying to help. The one good thing about the set up you have now is you aren't gonna break anything spinning off the line a little. When you add the truly sticky bias ply tires and you car starts dead hooking the carnage could begin. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Ill second that. Better to spin and run again then hook hard and break shit.

I recently went 1.60 60' bogging with 315/40/18 NT05R's. A good friend of mine has the same tire on his Bullitt. He is usually in the 1.55 range. However, his best 60' is a 1.49 leaving at 4500 and slipping the clutch a little at the hit.

I've thought about bias plys but MY et streets are sticky as hell, I'd rather not dead hook from 5500 rpm, I'm good with my two little screeches.

I probably wont go back to the track till I get some big n littles and a real tire out back. Not only for traction, but the weight as well..

I agree with others in here...

Although I'm partial to UPR suspension, I think there's still room for improvement with your exact combo. You definitely need to slip the clutch to let the Nittos roll out before you get after the throttle too hard. I'm sure it'll pick up in the 60' time. It's probably ten second capable on those NT05Rs with the perfect launch.

Thanks guys, I did slip the clutch 2 out of the 3 runs, but it's true I could have slipped it to a higher degree by allowing it to get rolling a little more. That definitely takes practice to nail down. I only hit the track maybe once a year. If I go back with these tires I'll concentrate more on that.
