Hello, I just purchased a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 Manual with 3.73 rear gear with 125,000 miles. The car had a few known issues when I bought it but have fixed most of them. One major issue was a horrible misfire it developed on my 3 hour drive home. When I got home I did plugs and coils and found that the spark plug strap was COMPLETELY MISSING on the driver side front cylinder and passenger side back cylinder. So basically it was running on 6 cylinders most of the drive home? Fast forward to today, it's been about a week since I fixed that and it's been running well! No misfires and I put some injector cleaner through it as well for good measure.

Here is my question though: First and Second Gear (0-60mph) just doesn't feel as fast as it should be. I did a very quick 0-60 run and it was 7.6 seconds, although not a perfect launch I expected it to be in at least the 5s. If I floor it in 1st gear at 4k rpm it doesn't even break the tires loose with Advancetrack off. I've driven stock Chevy SS cars before and it'll light them up in 1st and 2nd. Am I expecting more out of this car than I should or am I low on power? What should I check first? I was going to buy an exhaust back pressure gauge to see if my cats are clogged. P.S. the only modification is an axle back roush. Thanks!

Are you certain it’s got a stock tune? Melted ground straps could be a cause, but also clearly a symptom of another potential issue. Melted straps are usually from detonation or loose plugs.

I would inspect the plugs again and potentially do a compression test on both cylinders. If that checks out, it could be plugged cats, though that’s fairly unlikely

@StockishS197 I'm not certain it has a stock tune but I can check. Why do you ask, wouldn't a tune more likely make it faster or do you think it caused the plug issues possibly?

The plugs that were missing straps were basically finger tight. I will check the plugs again and compression, thanks!

If they were finger tight/loose, that could have very easily caused the issue too.

Asking as another cause of melted ground straps could be detonation, but again if the plugs weren’t tight and compression gases were leaking by, it would cause the melted straps

I'm far from a pro drag racer and had no trouble getting sub 5 second 0-60 runs in my buddy's '14 GT when it was stock. 7.6 seconds is way slow so, assuming your launch technique and shifts aren't completely terrible, it sounds like the car is likely down on power pretty bad.

IF the vehicle is tuned too agressive it can/will cause a cylinder issue. #4 and #8 are known issues due to fuel distribution.

I'd test everything before guessing on what the issue may be. The 2011 Mustang GT was the first year of the 5.0L Coyote engine (412 Hp). I had one.

I agree that you should check the compression in all cylinders. I'd also use a borescope and have a look inside.

They are slow stock but it's still a low 13, high 12sec car stock. Is it an auto?
