Cryogenics?

I did use the search but got nothing of use. I know what cryogenics is but......if you have a block good for X amount of hp from the factory with nothing special but de-burring done to it and have that cryo treated will it be good for more than that X hp? I am talking about the block only, not about what guts you have to put in it to handle X hp.

The place by me charges $375 for the block. But the blocks are pretty strong without it but I dunno how much stronger afterward it would be.

years ago i use to race 1/4 and 1/2 midgets and we used cryo all the time and we could tell a big difference in the engine and bearings and crank wear... i know ambulances and other well any body being hard on brakes will cryo their rotors and it works great. my buddys dad did it to his suburban and it was a big difference in longetivity... any how what we did find out is when we cryoed the fly wheel on our Honda Gx160 engines.... it fractured the imbeded magnet useds to triger the coil and it was junk all three of them were trashed... not that matters to a engine block. in other words im saying it works great even on golf balls! as far as you engine if u wanna put the money in it do it... internals too but you wont know how much stronger it will be until its too late hope this babbleing helps

Back in the day when I was running some of the Aprilia 250 cup races (2 stroke “GP” Roadrace motorcycle) we would get 1-2 race weekends out of a stock motor and an entire season out of ones that we had cryo’d. They made more power too.

I like cryo treating and i have seen where it seems to make thing stronger, I have a built kenny bell s/c'd jeep rubicon running 38" maxxis creepy crawlers 4.88 gears that I had issues with it breaking teeth on the ring gears in rear axle I had a new set of gears Cryo treated 4 years ago and no sign of a issue.
I also recently had a TCI hardned input shaft on my 5R55s that Is going to be hammered hard with 600+ RWTQ and 28x13.5x15 mickey thompson drag raidials.
If I had the money I would cryo the block, pistons, rods at the same time..

I don't see any reason to cryo a modular block at anything under about 1200 hp. Aside from that, drivetrain parts would make sense for sure.

Cryo treating metals makes them stronger and far more wear resistant. Vermont American sells their cryo treated isotemp screwdriver bits. You can't wear these things out. Cryo treating a block makes it less prone to distortion which can cause bearing failure due to misalignment and metal to metal contact. The cylinder walls are going to hold shape better under boost and thus less blowby as well as showing less signs of wear over time. Lots of good reasons for cryo treating blocks.

I understand what cryo treating does, but a well built modular just doesn't have the problems you've listed, even at high boost/hp numbers. However, I don't see any potential problems with cryo treating a block though, so if the money is there, it can only make it better.

Every block, rod, piston, and rings move and twist under power even in the best built engines. It is a matter of how much. Cryo treating works and it improves the longevity of components and makes them less prone to distortion. How long do you want you built engine to last?

Houston Engines and Balancing does it, but I haven't checked a price.

I was interested in this because I am building my 3V with a WAP block and read in several places (not just forums) that they are only good to 800 hp. Not sure if that is rw or fw, but my Livernois 298 rotating assembly is good for 1000+. The WAP as is will handle what my V3 Vortech can throw at it, but more power always leaves you in desire for more power......and a YSi may be in the years to come.
