I took the car out tonight and went WOT. When I let off the gas pedal, it didn't come back up and the engine kept revving eventually bouncing off the rev limiter. After about a second I could feel the pedal pop back up and hit the bottom of my foot. This happened a couple of times while the car was being tuned. The tuner said that he had to update the software on my X3, reloaded the tune and then it didn't do it anymore. Can someone please help me with this, I really don't want to blow up my engine.

Inspect the throttle body and make sure its not sticking open. Start with the simple stuff. After that get it back to your tuner.

welcome to my world. take a look at the carpet/floor mat. i managed to wear a hole in my carpet where the pedal touched and the corner was getting stuck there. a quick trim of the pedal/carpet fixed that issue.

It acts almost like the pedal is sticking down, is there a way that that could happen?

Now that you mention that, my car has those big rubber walmart floor mats in it(were in there when I bought the car). I just went out to the car and pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and it got stuck under the floor mat. Took out the mat and threw it in the trash and now the pedal doesnt stick down. I will have to drive the car tomorrow and see if it happens again when the car is running. I would've been so pissed if I lost a motor because of a damn floor mat.

Sounds like your mustang thinks it's a Toyota? Lol. Check the simple stuff first (obviously floormats/carpet, petal connections, TB, then tune and other tricky mech stuff).

If it continues to have this problem, inspect Throttle body and PCV valve line...or rubber hose to make sure eveything is good.

Its probabley just the floor mat playing tricks on you.

If the pedal is sticking down, it has nothing to do with any of the above mentioned except the floor mat since it is not a cable operated pedal.

I had similar problems with my car reving and holding high RPMS.....solution was that i kept blowing the PCV tube off that goes from the valve cover to the manifold under boost.....

It was just a suggestion if the floor mat wasn't playing tricks on him....dont get your panties in a twist. :mad2:

Running breathers on my car so I am guessing it was just the floor mat(which is in the trash now). Going to do some more datalogging tomorrow so I will let you know what becomes of this.

Sorry your car went all prius on you.
I don't think that has anything to do with your tune, your pedal is not physically linked to anything.
If it got stuck then it was the floor mat or something just siezed in the pedal assembly.

Stock floormats did that on my SuperDuty. There's a rubber stripe on the road in front of the shop when racing a SRT10 truck. I almost didn't get shut down before the street dead-ended into the interstate.
Thump thump thump back to the shop
