Thanks Hemi. I made a big mistake by not leaving enough room between me and the car in front of me. It was a mistake that could have cost me everything. I was damn lucky. I find myself thinking if I could have done something different, maybe the lady in front of me would still be alive.

It's been a tough year. I was involved in a logging accident this summer and I ended up in the hopital, and I had to have my heart stopped and re-started 3 times due to a severe A/F issue. Thats atrial fibrillation not air/fuel. LOL! I guess it's not my time to go yet.

I tell you what, at 46, you don't heal very fast. Getting old is B.S.

Marc, do you have a defibrilator or a pacemaker? They make new pacers that can get your heart back into sinus rythm. Hope you start to feel better soon. Again ill be praying for you.

No, it turned out that I have developed a severe allergy to Caffeine. When I first went into the hospital, they thought is was a cocaine overdose. They did not believe me until the blood work came back. A/F happened two more times until they figured it out. I tell you what, having your heart stopped and re-started with a defibrilator hurts like hell. I had paddel burns and rib pains for weeks. I'm sure the people on this forum that are in the medical field can attest to this.

I go to see a specialist next week. They are going to run two different test to see what damage there may be. From the scans that were performed at the hospital, they believe everything is fine. I can tell you that I have never had a headache like this before. I guess that's to be expected because of the swelling. Short term memory has been affected also. I couldn't remember what I had for lunch. Again, they tell me this is normal.

The truck drivers insurance company keeps pestering me for a statement.
I had my attorney call them today to let them know that they are the contact going forward. It will be interesting to see what the insurance company offers to settle.

"You client almost killed me and did kill someone else."

...just repeat that over and over...

Glad you made it!

Really? Same here. Except the caffeine was causing me to have runs of SVT(no, no that SVT, Supraventricular Tachycardia) with occasional a-fib. I am a runner and my resting heart rate usually hovers around the high 60s but it would jump up to over 200 bpm!

I captured it on EKG a couple times myself while at the firehouse and had the other guys freakin out and wanting to cardiovert(shock) me, but I was so used to it happening that I could always self convert within a couple of minutes. Earlier this year I had a procedure called Cardiac Ablation done and thankfully have not had an episode since.

+1 for checking mirrors. Can't count how many times I've avoided morons not paying attention during sudden braking or while sitting at red lights. I've never been caught in a position where I didn't have somewhere to go though. I can't imagine how you must have felt knowing it was coming and you couldn't do shit but try to survive it. Good job in doing so bro.

Can always replace the car, but not the driver. You'll shake it off!

Hopes for a quick recovery!

Wow. Not sure how I missed this, but wow. You are a lucky guy. I thought my leg problems were something, but I've got nothing on you buddy. Hopefully the next 46 will be a bit more forgiving.

wow...i've encountered this also. i had a guy on my crew one day while we were eating lunch tell us he thought he was having a heart attack. he turned gray and looked like he had been punched in both eyes and was sweating profusely. i rushed him to the hospital in my company truck, but just like you, it was a reaction to caffeine. his heart didn't stop, but i thought he was going to die right there in the front seat of my truck!

don't forget the pics of the car, and glad you're okay!

Not too many days after posting in this thread I had a close call. Driving down the highway, a few cars up a car swerves over because people were at a dead stop for an exit, well everyone slammed on brakes and everyone knows it gets worse the further you get back. I was able to come to a stop with plenty of room. I was looking like a hawk for the next car and the lanes next to me. Low and behold comes a lady slamming brakes but was never going to make it. I went WOT and moved over into the middle lane and she went off the road into the grass. There's no doubt that she would of clipped me at the very least because she barely missed the car in front of me. Thank God no one was in the middle lane when it was happening otherwise I would of been hauling ass down the shoulder. LOL

The truck drivers insurance company made me a settlement offer last week. I accepted the offer and received the funds on Monday. They gave me $39,000 for the Shelby, $10,000 for pain and suffering and paid my attorney fees. Also, they will be paying all related medical expenses for one year.

So, I was really happy with this since I purchased the Shelby at auction for $26,509.00. Ya I know, I could have held out for more. However, The more I thought about it, the more I felt like I made money on another family's loss. Here I am celebrating and some other family is without their Mother. Now, some of you will think I'm insane for doing what I did and that's ok.

Today I met with the family of the lady that died in the crash. I donated the $22,491.00 to the charity of their choice in her name. Maybe I'm nuts for doing this. However, I feel like it was the right thing to do and I feel good about. I like profit, but not this way.

I would like to hear peoples thoughts on this. What would you have done? My friends had mixed feelings about it.

It was your money to do with as you seen fit! I say it was a most honorable gesture. Well done!
