The truck drivers insurance company made me a settlement offer last week. I accepted the offer and received the funds on Monday. They gave me $39,000 for the Shelby, $10,000 for pain and suffering and paid my attorney fees. Also, they will be paying all related medical expenses for one year.

So, I was really happy with this since I purchased the Shelby at auction for $26,509.00. Ya I know, I could have held out for more. However, The more I thought about it, the more I felt like I made money on another family's loss. Here I am celebrating and some other family is without their Mother. Now, some of you will think I'm insane for doing what I did and that's ok.

Today I met with the family of the lady that died in the crash. I donated the $22,491.00 to the charity of their choice in her name. Maybe I'm nuts for doing this. However, I feel like it was the right thing to do and I feel good about. I like profit, but not this way.

I would like to hear peoples thoughts on this. What would you have done? My friends had mixed feelings about it.

That is a really noble thing to do, it shows what kind of person you are.

It was a great thing you did. Very noble and honorable. Being here today with your family is the biggest gift/payout/reward you could ever ask for. God bless you.

Amazing thing you did.Anyone who knocks you for doing things the way you chose to do them, needs a reality check."Dont judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes."You almost lost your life, and some poor lady did.We need a few more people like you walking around this earth.

I think what you did Marc was awesome! Just think about it, there are not many people out there in this world like you man.. There are a lot of greedy people that wouldn't even think about doing such a nice gesture.

Get well my friend. Although you feel like you cheated death, it just wasnt your turn. What will be, will be. It wasnt you turn. I came close to the end twice on my motor cycle, totalled it the second time. As I was flying off my bike (08 suzuki hayabusa) I didnt have a thought in my mind as I was thrown into on coming traffic, sliding on my back for about 15 feet waiting to be run over by a jeep Chorkee. When I jumped up off the road and realized that the traffic had stopped, I walked to the corner of the road dazed and then I started reflecting on my life. At the time I was in a Five year relationship and I was doing alot of dirt to the young lady, but she wasnt a bed of roses to deal with either and I was very unhappy, but stayed because I felt sorry for her. After the accident and me totalling my brank new bike which flew into the back of a Dodge Ram pickup, I called my then girlfriend and explained to her that I was sorry for all the hurt I had brought our reltionship and asked for her forgiveness. I felt guilty because I had me someone else who I realized I was falling in love with and I knew it wasnt fair to keep tagging my ex behind. I broke up with my ex and kept on see my now soon to be wife. I got engage this saturday. I love this woman. SHe treates me like a king, like no one had ever treated me before. I actually planned everything, got the hotel, bought the ring with out her knowing anything, asked for my parents and her parents blessings and surprised her with a proposal. The moral of the story is:
"You dont reflect on your life and family when you think you're going to DIE, you begin reflecting on your life when you realize that it wasnt your turn and you survive".

I agree with everything you did except for having them pay medical for only 1 year. It should have been longer.

Donating that money to charity was a very, very nice thing to do. You should be proud of yourself.

It's a blessing you are still with us. God was surely with you during this and doesnt want you to go yet. Hearing the story just sounds so crazy...

I will go ahead and say this...I know you feel bad b/c the other person died, but you didn't make money on another persons loss. I promise you that the other family will be loaded from a lawsuit that will sue that driver and/or company he was working for including the insurance company that insured him. But, you just gave away money to a charity in their name when in reality if an injury comes to haunt you in the future, you will not have anything left...Im not saying what you did was wrong (I honor you for your actions bc that is incredibly generous), but I think I would have put it back for safety. You made a deal to only pay a year worth of medical bills so after that, your on your own. I know the chances are slim that anything else will go wrong after a year, but if they do, it could be costly.

Again, not saying what you did was wrong...Just stating my opinion since thats what you asked for

damn.. glad your ok. Things like that are an eye opener. I had the same experience about 12 years ago in a ford escort and the truck that hit me was a mid size.. luckily no one was killed, but it was bad. Just take things slow for now. things will get back on track later. Dont sign anything to waive your rights later in the future. I had issues later the crept up.

Well apparently Karma is indeed a bitch. I spent this week up at my vacation house with some friends. Last night around 12:00 A.M. My friends and I decided to take the UTV's out for a spin up in the Mountains. 50+ MPH through the woods and snow, had a great time. Pulled back onto my driveway doing a nice drift, hooked a rim in the gravel and rolled my Rhino 10ft from my deck! My wife and her friends were sitting around the campfire giving me the (are you kidding me) look. The Rhino came to rest on the drivers door. I climbed out the passenger side and said in my best Ace Ventura voice, "like a glove". I Had to go back to the hospital and get 5 stitches in my forehead.

I'm never leaving the house again!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and thanks for the kind words.

Thats like reverse karma though, you did the most noble thing anyone could do in that situation and you still got a trip to the ER again lol. Well still glad everything is ok, at least you arent living life scared after all of that. Live life to the fullest and when it is your time to go it will happen, dont worry about it until then :thumb2:

Wow glad you are ok. A great man you are for donating the money. On the other hand that family willl be takan care of as well. You gotta look out for yourself in these type of situations. Just my opinion. Good for you, you did a good thing regardless.

That was God's way of saying, "When you give, you should give in secret."

But God bless you brother! You did a very good thing there. I've had some similar experiences I simply will not go into, but it takes a lot of guts, courage, humbleness and true convictions and morals to do what you did. Your mother and father did a great job on ya!

Merry Christmas dude. I hope at least you didn't have to go through a long wait at the ER.
