Ford finally announced the numbers on their new GT supercar:

647 hp at 6,250 rpm
550 lb-ft at 5,900 rpm
216-mph top speed

All that out of an EcoBoost V6. Twin turbos and direct injection, 3.5L.

Completely badass, and they are fastest at Daytona so far. Let's hope they bring home the bacon on Sunday.

3hp per cubic inch isn't too shabby

That car looks as good as it performs. Kudos to Ford on their amazing performance vehicle line-up across ALL price points. They are doing it as good or better than any other manufacturer right now.

great power numbers for the size of the motor, but 647 hp is a bit dissapointing in a world with 700+ supercars being common and a 13/14 GT500 making 661 stock and a quick mod away from 725-750 hp

added, not that anyone cares who will own or like this car, but a V6 is supposed to be more fuel efficient?

EPA CITY/HWY/COMB FUEL ECON 11/18/14 mpg

I'm bettin at 2890lb it'll get the job done. That's by far the lightest car I've heard of in a long while.

Sorry STKJOCK, I just recall seeing 2890 in another article I glanced through previously but didn't review it or triple check anything.

I dunno about 700+ being common with the weight of the GT. Most are in that same range unless you are talking Bugatti and 1 million dollar price tags. The Lamborghini Aventador wet is almost 4000lbs. What really matters is how fast it's going to go around the track though.

Actually what matters is that the youtube stars and instagram celebs tweet and vlog about their new ford gt quite a lot. That's how Ford decided who got their halo vehicle.

This does not seem that impressive to me.

Seems a set of new heads that mount turbos directly to them (like the 2.3 Ecoboost) for a Coyote would make more power and be cheaper to produce. Might even do better on fuel economy.

I like the V6 Ecoboost idea, but seems like it should have been better executed.

As stated this car is rated city/highway/combined fuel economy at 11/18/14 mpg.

The last GT was rated city/highway/combined at 12/19/14.

All that tech and they couldn't better those numbers?

Regrettably, Ford has put all of their chutzpah behind this v6. Could have been the upcoming (and now outgoing) CAFE regulations.

At least we'll still be able to get V8 Camaros.

I think this V6 is a great engine that could deliver equal or better V8 power and better fuel economy in a different configuration. That's a win-win. It will never sound like a V8 and for some that's an issue.

For curiosity I looked at the current 5.0 fuel ratings and they are 15/24/18 city/highway/combined. Turbo's with only 8 psi would be in the 670 hp range with 600ish ft-lbs.

I won't argue with that, but I don't care about that either. I just want to see them win in IMSA and WEC. It's all about bragging rights for Ford, not who owns one.

Nah, it was about GT class regulations at Lemans. For forced induction it has to be below 4.0L, for NA it can be up to 5.5L, which is why the corvettes (at lemans) run a smaller displacement V8 than you get off the lots.

ford fell ass backwards into that, they had no plans to put the 3.5 in a lemans vehicle when it was developed. Just lucky, and they can keep pushing their egoboost agenda. The modulars can't compete with the LS style engines of similar displacement so they couldn't just put a 5.2 V8 in there.

It's advertising for the 3.5 ecoboost pickup, Explorer, and Taurus. All factory sponsored racing is just advertising.
