2006 Trunk Latch won’t latch

So I just bought my Mustang off OfferUp, and the trunk has never closed properly. The latch on the lid keeps hitting the flat part of the bar it SHOULD latch onto. Even after I manage to shimmy it over the latch and into position, it won’t go down on it or fully engage. Help! Video

With the trunk open can you use a screwdriver and actuate the latch to close all of the way and then turn the key and release it?

Try what Eman said. it may be that the latch iself is not working. I recently had that issue on one of mine so it was replaced with a working one pulled from a junkyard (you have to swap the key cylinder).
