2008 18" polished aluminum finish fix

I tried fixing the finish on my rims a few years ago, but clear coat didn't work so well. The other day I noticed that I had some Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic finish 7718 Chrome spray paint, and I sprayed it on an empty beer can. It matched my rims. I masked off my rims today and sprayed the marred areas, and they look like the original finish.
