I purchased a 2008 Mustang from a friend replaced the engine with an 09 engine. I replaced the timing chain and tuned the engine up. The issue i have now is when a cruising at 60-70 mph after about 15 minutes the car goes into limp mode. P061C, i have changed the crank shaft sensor, the cam shaft sensor and the throttle body. Do I need to replace the PCM?

You should inspect all the wiring to those sensors for damage. A swapped engine can cause pinching or chafing of wires .

I have a 06 GT. I replaced the engine with a 2009 gt. I added the TB from the 09 but my car did NOT like it. So I returned the 06 GT TB and the car ran fine. Something to try. Also make sure you connected the exhaust manifold sensors to the right side. I had mine swapped and car ran funny.

Much better limp mode ;)

Have you tested the CPS wire? It should be high ohm against the engine housing (AFAIK). An other test could be a cooling spray at the ECU, when the car is in limp mode again, to see if it is heat related.

The P061C OBD error code in a Ford Mustang indicates that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an issue with the engine's RPM monitoring system.

Possible causes

  • A faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)
  • A faulty Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)
  • A poor electrical connection at the CKP or CMP circuit
  • An open or shorted CKP or CMP harness
  • A malfunctioning PCM

Thanks, I took it to the shop to have the PCP checked. I changed the sensors. I didn’t see any wiring issues.
