2011 GT500 + 146RWHP/+167RWTQ with TVS Supercharger

I had a customer bring his new 2011 GT500 down from NC. It only had 1000 miles on it, and half were from the drive here!

We baselined the car at 508RWHP/481RWTQ with the stock tune.

After that I got to work swapping the blower:

After a couple hours of wrenching and a few pulls to get it dialed in, these were the results:

The 2011s take to higher boost very easily. The stock CAI with the new for 2011 frequency based maf does very well at 17-19psi. The 11s actually have a feature that is very neat, they can increase alternator voltage based on fuel pump flow rate. With an extra .3v-.5v kick, the stock fuel pumps had plenty of capacity. Stock injectors were also doing fine. I was very happy with the results from a car with stock throttle body and low miles. The 2.5" pulley makes about 17psi.

Expand that airfuel graph up a bunch Justin, lets see just how rich the before tune was. looks like it was in the low 11's to high 10's. Kinda hard to see.

I would hope you got that kind of gain with the added boost and the leaned out tune. Have you done any comparisons between the stock supercharger at those same boost levels to compare to the TVS?

Just so we are clear it wasnt just a blower change that made the difference, it was the tune and the extra boost for the most part correct?

Hey JJ, if there was even 100rwhp in a tune alone all us tuners would be rich.

Anyways, most of the 10-11 GT500s I have done don't pick up a ton of power from tuning alone, due to the more aggressive stock cal that came in 2010 along with the addition of knock sensors and a factory CAI.

All 11s have factory widebands, so these cars never run rich or lean, they run exactly what you command. I am commanding the same wide open throttle air fuel as stock (.82 lambda or 12:1), with the exception of taking out the richer lambda that the factory commands in the 3000 to 5000rpm area.

Almost all of the power increase is from the more efficient TVS rotorpack and it's capability to run much more boost. When you run the TVS with a 2.9" pulley it makes the same boost as a stock blower with a 2.6" pulley, but you see 50 more RWHP and 50 more RWTQ from the increased effieciency. The additional gains beyond that are from the ability of the TVS to run much more boost and still do it efficiently. This is still a very mild combo with stock exhaust, stock TB, and stock lower. Exhaust and TB are worth about 15-20rwhp each, and a lower is worth another 30-40RWHP. My car makes 773rwhp with the TVS with cams.

FYI I baselined this car with a tune only before swapping the blower, it made 531 in very cool florida air, a gain of only 23 over stock (though this car dynoed really high stock at 508).

I appreciate the input and do know and understand how the factory widebands work as I have tuned several vehicles with them already. What I was asking and what you tried to answer in bold type above was from the looks of the graph the airfuel was richer on the before run compared to the after run so did you pick up that extra power from the "efficiency" of the TVS or from it running leaner on the after graph? As you know the only true way to determine if a part gained or lost power is to have the exact same run conditions and airfuel so if you could expand up that airfuel and post it up that would be great, furthermore if you could do a before and after at the exact same airfuel that would be a much better test. I do get the cleaning up the 3000-5000 range BTW as .759 is pretty rich but as you know cleaning that section of the airfuel up will have an effect on the max numbers as well. I guess I'm just asking for the same airfuel on both to compare apples to apples.

Sorry I'm just not a big fan if showing the airfuel in that manner with the max value being 20 and squeezing it down as it is really misleading and hard to read.

Its no doubt the TVS makes more power over the stock supercharger, I just want to see it do so, and how much more it does at the exact same airfuel as the "before" run.

The TVS blower has more airflow and its adiabatic efficiency is better, lower IAT's and more airflow at the same boost levels is never a bad thing. I have been noticing the same small tune improvements over the later GT500's vs the early cars that would pick up 40 or 50 rwhp with a tune.

That being said what are the differences between the tuned 531 rwhp tune and the TVS blower tune, I am curious to know if no changes were made.

The only difference is less timing, the TVS tune has much less, about 4-6* less depending upon the exact speed and load point. When boost goes up, timing must go down to prevent knock.

FYI JJ, what you see is the default normalization of the dynojet software, no tricks, that's how it spits it out.

At your request I presented additional information, so there are no secrets. The car made 508 stock, 531 tuned, and over 650 with my blower (for which tuning is required).

Depending upon how the particular customer wants to view the gains, they may take the blower and tune as a package since one requires the other, or they may look at the gains individually. However I believe most are going to look at it as a package.

I know how the dynojets software works and how its defaults are set and tune on one all the time but I always expand whatever parameter it is that I'm graphing so I get a better idea of it.

Also I have never said there are any secrets, I just want to compare before and afters correctly.
