Believe me, I am not an expert concerning cars, much less our S197 Mustangs, but I'm going off of what I do know and have solid facts behind.


In the Ford service manual, it states that the 4.6 3v has an aluminum cylinder block. I'm surprised you were told that it had a cast iron block, I have never heard that before, who was your source?

FORD did switch to aly block on their mustang GT since 1996 or 97

No, aluminum blocks are found from 1993-1998 in the Lincoln Mark 8 and in Cobras only from 1996-1999 and 2001. There was no Cobra (except for the R model) in 2000 or 2002. The Mustang GT did not get an aluminum block until 2005. The Cobra saw its first iron block (with the exception of the 2000 5.4L R model) in 2003, which continued to 2004, and then from 2007-2010. The Cobra (Shelby) will get an aluminum block in 2011 and the Mustang GT will continue its aluminum tradition with the new aluminum 5.0.

I'd say that's a pretty cool accident. I like the accidental superchargers on the Shelbys and the accidental aluminum block they will be getting for 2011. Anyone hear about the accidental 5.0? I hear Ford screwed up and it's going to be aluminum as well.

i dont think u wanna do that. the stock gears will almost be enough. have u seen the new ratios? i believe a 3.55 in the new tranny will be equivalent of a 4.10 in the 3650.
