Here are some calculations I did showing the final ratios with the new 6-speed and the old 5-speed and hwy rpms for each. These are things people usually ask for a lot, especially when figuring out what gear they should go with. Also when looking to find what gear with the new 6-speed is "equivalent" to the 5-speed.

6-speed (MT82)
---
1 - 3.66
2 - 2.43
3 - 1.69
4 - 1.32
5 - 1.00
6 - 0.65

5-speed (TR-3650)
---
1 - 3.38
2 - 2.00
3 - 1.31
4 - 1.00
5 - 0.67

Final Ratios:

3.55 - 6-speed
---
1 - 3.66 x 3.55 = 12.9930
2 - 2.43 x 3.55 = 8.6265
3 - 1.69 x 3.55 = 5.9995
4 - 1.32 x 3.55 = 4.6860
5 - 1.00 x 3.55 = 3.5500
6 - 0.65 x 3.55 = 2.3075

3.73 - 6-speed
---
1 - 3.66 x 3.73 = 13.6518
2 - 2.43 x 3.73 = 9.0639
3 - 1.69 x 3.73 = 6.3037
4 - 1.32 x 3.73 = 4.9236
5 - 1.00 x 3.73 = 3.7300
6 - 0.65 x 3.73 = 2.4245

4.10 - 6-speed
---
1 - 3.66 x 4.10 = 15.0060
2 - 2.43 x 4.10 = 9.9630
3 - 1.69 x 4.10 = 6.9290
4 - 1.32 x 4.10 = 5.4120
5 - 1.00 x 4.10 = 4.1000
6 - 0.65 x 4.10 = 2.6650

3.55 - 5-speed
---
1 - 3.38 x 3.55 = 11.9990
2 - 2.00 x 3.55 = 7.1000
3 - 1.31 x 3.55 = 4.6505
4 - 1.00 x 3.55 = 3.5500
5 - 0.67 x 3.55 = 2.3785

3.73 - 5-speed
---
1 - 3.38 x 3.73 = 12.6074
2 - 2.00 x 3.73 = 7.4600
3 - 1.31 x 3.73 = 4.8863
4 - 1.00 x 3.73 = 3.7300
5 - 0.67 x 3.73 = 2.4991

4.10 - 5-speed
---
1 - 3.38 x 4.10 = 13.8580
2 - 2.00 x 4.10 = 8.2000
3 - 1.31 x 4.10 = 5.3710
4 - 1.00 x 4.10 = 4.1000
5 - 0.67 x 4.10 = 2.7470

the big diff really isn't going to be highway speeds as the final gear is almost identical,

the thing to look at is the 4th gear which is way diff than the 1:1, you obviously won't want to be shifting into 5th gear at the track.

the benefit of the different gear set will be good. you'll be able to run a lower gear and get better hwy mpg while still going through in 4th gear

Yeah, I noticed that too. IMO, the new automatic will be the hot ticket.

i do like the auto, but i think the stick will still be nice with the tall first gear.

again, you'll be able to run probably a 3.55 or 3.73 at the absolute most where you were runnint 4.10's and 4.30's

Sweet that works.
I was talking like mph/rpm in the other gears not just overdrive as there is really not a big difference since the new tranny has a 1:1 5th and they have similar overdrives.

The drag guys are still not gonna wanna get into that 1:1 5th gear so rpm/mph at redline in 4th gear is gonna be some good info for this new 6 speed with different rearend gears.

But great info none the less!

In effort to make the best use of power you WILL want to use 5th gear at the track, I would imagine at the stock powerlevel you will only use 1-4, but as power goes up, or you choose your rear gear accordingly, you will be 1-5.

this will surely seperate the men from the boys as you will now have to make 4 gear changes through a pass,

i don't see why not, as long as the 5.0 has the smae bellhouseing bolt pattern as the 4.6 it shouldn't be a problem. everything else should be off the shelf standard issue.

one of them 6spd autos would be nice with that tall gear, 4.10s and no stall would still rip outta the hole

Not liking the 1:1 5th gear at all. Makes you wonder why they chose that trans... the engine probably doesn't make chit for torque.

Why? It was closen because ratios are closer together. The T3550 has some massive gaps between ratios.

390 lbs-ft is shit for torque?

I'd see what I can make for a excel graph for a visual demostration.

With the MT-82 transmission, I think 4.10 gears are going to cease being part of the Mustang venacular. However, there are people insane enough to put 4.56 gears in the current trasmissions.

the auto will be quite a bit trickier.... my guess is that will not be a cost effective swap, the ECM on a 5r car will not control a 6 speed.

IIRC the article I read said they shared the same bellhousing as the 4.6 , now don't hold me to that though . And mike is spot on about the auto swap JDM already talked about the 6 speed a while back with their raptor truck they did . Jim said the old 5r has something like 5? parameters where as the new 6 speed has like 20? .

Yeah it will be interesting as i was staying outa the 1:1 gear, trapping at the top of 3RD at the tarck with 310rwhp and my 3.55 gears. Wonder whats gonna edge out... lowering gears with more power to still trap at the top of 4th or using that 5th 1:1 gear with some higher rear gears. Very interested in this.
