Guys thanks for all the help so far. The hood was bent like that due to the fire dept prying it open to turn the flames off. I recently moved to a new city and i barely know anyone so i don't think arson was the answer. I really wish i can get to the bottom of this ASAP, but the fire chief said until Monday he won't know anything. Hopefully if it did do this on its own they dont blame my mods for it.

This exact same thing happened to this girl who is a facebook friend of mine and her 2011 5.0 Fire spontaneously happened from the engine.

Did she find out what the cause of it was? To me it looks like it started in the engine bay, and spread into the cabin somehow. The engine was basically all melted to shit. What ended up happening to her? Did she go after Ford?

With your mods and model there is no way it will light up on its own, even if you had a stereo installed or some shit. Thats because in 20~30 mins of car switched off, everything gets dissconnected from car except the anti theft.

a question though, arent the hoods aluminum ? so why is it burnt like that ? I know the temp was high but notice the way the hood got bent.

Not true, the 12v outlet where i always leave my radar plugged in is a constant source of power. Even when the car is turned off, and my radar always stays plugged in, i just don't think that can cause my car to get burned to shit.

Sorry to see this man.

I had a older for product and they sent out a recall saying that something in the cruise control module/ harness could catch fire at anytime. With the car running or not. It didn't matter. So it is possible for cars to catch fire without running.

Hope you get a new one soon.

Damn, dude. That's crazy that it just went up in flames. Best of luck finding the cause!

Not a new phenomenon for Ford. They had a big recall a few years ago for vehicle fires caused by a short in the cruise control wiring. The fires could happen at any time, whether the vehicle was running or not. The '01 F-150 I owned at the time was part of the recall.

Two weeks ago I watched an older Ford Expedition burn to the ground in a shopping center parking lot. The truck was unoccupied and not running.

They sure do. Years back when I worked at my grandparents dealership there was a rash of windstars catching on fire just like this. Also, about 2 years ago I was at lunch with a Heineken rep and a brand new Chrysler just caught on fire right in front of the windows at the restaurant we were at. Poor old lady was really upset. I remember seeing some shitabout this a couple weeks earlier on the news. Strange with the 5.0 though......hope everything works out.

Looking at the pictures and seeing how much paint was melted off the door panels other then a couple of spots on the front finders there isnt much so looks like to me that the brunt of the fire was inside. But Im not a fire chief so he would know better. Any problems with the apartments with egging and other acts of vandalism Starting a fire is a huge step but can never ruled out.
