hey guys I am going to look at a set of the 2013 GT500 6 piston 15" rotor brembos this weekend. I know they will physically bolt up perfect but I have a question. My car started out life as a base with the standard GT brakes, Is the master cylinder that is in the car sufficient to run the 6 piston Brembos? I am running the 4 piston 14" brembos now and they are great, I would be getting such a good deal on the 15" ones i just cant pass it up. thanks!

1) Not really tech.

2) A quick search would have gave you the answer.

3) No need to change the master cylinder or abs computer.

To the OP: The 15" Brembo's are functionally close to the 14" Brembo's. Not identical, but close. You probably won't notice a difference in brake balance, and probably not in performance either unless you really work it hard.

I'm willing to take a bet and say that the 6 pot Brembos will take longer to fade than the 4 pot, due to a larger surface area of the rotor. SVT put 6 pots on the 2013-2014 GT500 for a reason, and that's probably because the 4 pots weren't performing like they wanted.

Ford didn't bother to upgrade until the vehicle top speed hit 200MPH. While it's true that the 15's will handle more heat than the 14's, for most people the 14's are more than enough. I've actually removed my 15" Brembo's and installed a set of 14" Stoptech's on my GT500 so I can use 18" rims and R-Comps for track days. The OEM 14's are excellent and will do anything the Stoptech's will do, although if you're going to work them hard you should switch to 2-piece Girodisk rotors. The biggest benefit of the OEM 14's is the wide range of racing brake pads available in the D1001 outline. For the Brembo 15's, you have exactly two to choose between - Pagid RS19 and Hawk DTC-60. Ferodo DS2500 is also available, but it's not in the same league.

Yes, I realize the 6 pot Brembos are overkill for 99% of Mustang drivers out there, but I was simply stating that they will perform better in the heat catagory.
I think they look better, plus, not everyone needs to or wants to run 18'' wheels, so not fitting 18s over them is a non-issue.

The OP is asking if it will work, so let's not turn this into a discussion of what is good enough, because it's been answered so many times before.

well I ended up getting them for $650, and I already sold my 4 pistons for $550 so I think I made out pretty good. They really fill out the wheels, and just look like they mean business. side by side they make the 4 pistons look like girls brakes lmao. Only thing is I don't think I bled them all the way. I dont know what I did wrong, I bled 3 32 oz bottles of fluid through them. They feel 80% of the way there, they stop the car good i even noticed improvement in high speed braking but if you jam the pedal hard it will go to the floor. I guess what I am trying to say is i want the pedal more firm, so I am assuming I need to bleed it more. Anybody have any tips for bleeding these brembos or the brake systems in general on these cars? do I need to bleed the rears too when I just changed the fronts? thanks!

4 vs 6 piston, the pad is much larger

Just have them pressure bled and replace all the fluid. Better all around and probably time for fresh fluid front to back.

thats what I was thinking of doing cause i really dont want to fart with it anymore, i hate bleeding brakes. Should I have them put in DOT 4? or dot 3? My buddy was doing some research and the local pep boys has a machine to completely flush the system, and wanted $69 to flush his corvette and put in DOT 4.

70 bucks for a fluid flush isn't bad in my mind, as long as it's done with a machine. I would run the DOT 4

Yeah mine are 100 % there and they are just awesome! High speed low speed ! A must have for boosted cars! They do make some brake dust though!

I'm hopefully about to do this same 6-piston swap on my car. Other than having the brakes pressure bled, there's no DIY tips for removing all the air out of the system?

Like I said, SVT used them on the 2013-2014 GT500 for a reason other than looks for you doubters. LOL

They look great OP!

OP, good job on getting a good deal. If they were regular priced, I'd say it isn't worth the extra cost.

A few questions: noticed an brake bias? Having 6 pot in the front and running standard GT brakes in the rears? It bothers me how we have such beautiful front brakes and Corrola looking brakes in the rear.

Any decent rear replacements or upgrades? I know Baer and I believe Roush make a 14 inch rotor upgrade for the rears but still utilize the standard 2 piston calipers.

What made you go with the 15" over the Boss 14's? One inch of cooling sounds nice and a littler more clamping power, but what about the weight penalty with the 15's?

Also, I say this out of confusion - not sarcasm, but how is this not a tech topic? Non-tech in my opinion are exhaust questions, intake and "what do you think of this?
