The TR-6060 without the remote shifter, unlike the one that is currently used in the GT-500, has really good shift feel/quality. Something that seems desirable to people who typically buy import cars. The Mustang needs to appeal to a wider audience, more than the current market. The MT-82 Mustangs's I've driven have been very hit or miss in how well they shift. Some feel sloppy as hell and others are good. Lets face it, there are quite a few $25,000-$40,000 sporty cars out there. The next Mustang has to have a wide appeal to sell well. It will be the little things like better shifter feel, optional keyless start, standard Bluetooth integration, and standard and optional features that will allow it to compete with other cars in its price range. Have you seen the standard features of some of the $18K-$25K import cars out there these days, not to mention the slightly more expensive ones? Ford needs to do all those little things to lure in new buyers that otherwise would overlook the Mustang.
The MT-82 is rated for how much torque? If I remember correctly the spec was something like 380-400 ft-lbs. Sure they hold up to much more than that, but how many high power 5.0's with the MT-82 have a lot of miles on them?
Also, putting the TR-6060 in more cars could cut down the production cost of the TR-6060 if the production capacity is there..
I have to say, my experience with Mexican made engines and transmissions in Fords has been very positive.
