The Mustang is not a muscle car. I'll repeat it is not a muscle car. It is a pony car. There is a difference.

That said people keep saying the renderings are not "true American", or some shit, designs. Someone please define what makes a design "true American".

You do have a good point....never really heard the term pony car before. from Wikipedia so take it for what it's worth:

Stylish and sporty styling that included "long hoods, short decks, and open mouths"
Assembled from "off-the-shelf" mass production components
Affordable base price (under $2,500 — in 1965 dollar value)
Wide range of options to individualize each car
Youth-oriented marketing and advertising.
While most of the pony cars offered more powerful engines and performance packages, enough to qualify some into muscle car territory, a substantial number were sold with six-cylinder engines or ordinary V8s.[14] For the most part, the high-performance models saw limited sales and were largely limited to drag racing, road racing, or racing homologation purposes.

Couple larger images of the Car & Driver rendering. This strikes me as VERY plausible.

That would be the best looking Mustang of all time. The first time you could say I bought it because it is beautiful and fast and not because it was cheap and fast.

Y'all keep posting these renderings. Accurate or not, every time I see one I feel better about keeping my 3V a little bit longer and not jumping on the 5.0 bandwagon. I can wait two more years if I have something like this to look forward to. Then I'll be able to retire my 3V from DD duties, make it a real hot rod, and put one of the new 'Stangs in my driveway.

^ Like wise, but I'm not down with the rx-8 looking front. Ford hopefully does it differently

how am I blind? the front ends are both the same, Same slant to the head lights, almost the same shape, same front bumper with fog lights in almost the exact same place, same grill design, only the mustang grill is upside down compared to the mazda, same body lines. the curve on top of the quarter panel and deck lid is the same. The over all shape is the same. If you can't see the similarities I can post one in a different color if that helps you. The rendering is close to an RX-8, I'm not the only one who sees that.

I can see some very minor similarities in the two but nothing to what you are describing.

Mainly, it isn't smiling at you like the RX-8 is.

Looks like shit. But I do understand the changes coming due to the market. I'm stuck on the Retro look, so I'll stick to my '06. I'm at the power level I want and love how it rides.

Retro is so....... old. We've looked back fondly and relived a great number of memories. I'm tired of looking back and reminiscing about the "ol' days" and the way things used to be. It's time for something new and forward looking.

Just because the grill is flipped in the rendering. If you turn it upside down it has the same goofy smile.. Not that this is worth arguing, for I would about bet it's not going to look like this.

People who bitch about IRS generally have never owned a rwd car with IRS...

NOT Ford's typical bandaid system of shit suspension in a shit chassis.

IRS can plant JUST fine in a straight line and the car is much more fluid to drive

I had a G8GT before the Mustang.

IRS sucks for straight line and high horsepower.

Long hood? Check. Short deck? Check. Two door? Check. V8? Check. Rear wheel drive? Check. Seems to meet the criteria.

If this is what it looks like when they release it, I will buy one. I like my 08 and I will have it for a long time. Mostly because knowbody would want it.

For me, the retro thing has run it's course and I welcome a modern version.

I see a little Zenvo in the Mustang. Could be worse comparing it to a million dollar car.
