Well most people here do performance mods instead of trying to make their shit look pretty because they actually fucking drive it instead of staring at it.

Wonder how much of a change the production line will have to go through to handle assembly of the all new chassis?

The only thing I like just a little bit is the wide rear end and tail lights of that new FUSION GT

Let's see how long that IRS last in the track, if it's good then welcome the new technology also the 200 Lbs reduction I am very curios how they did it.

I'm sure the new IRS will be stronger than the old Cobra IRS, technology improves almost everything.

I've also heard rumours of solid axle kits already in the works so the '15+ guys will be able to do what numerous '99-'04 IRS guys did and swap in a solid axle for serious drag strip use.

Why would Ford make all the hoopla and a big deal only to make it available a year later?

Bad move if you ask me

Not a write up, a second hand comment from a dealership owner. I questioned the timing as well.

They may just be playing. I'll look around next week for some answers. Right now the factories are closed though for retooling.

If it hooks and doesn't spit out half shafts, straight axles will not be needed. Time will tell. If Ford is smart they tested the rear suspension at much higher than stock power levels and at the drag strip.

I'm sure the IRS will last forever at the track.

Ohh... wait... you meant the drag strip... I would be shocked if they didn't last quite a while there too. Ford isn't stupid and they know their markets. I give it about 6 months tops before Currie makes a 9" swap in kit for you folk who still like burning down the quarter mile.

Look at the front suspension drawings and you can see where some of the weight loss would come from. They don't need the bolt in crossmember any more. It's built into the unibody. I'd also bet a lot of the weight reduction comes from the sum of many smaller changes.

The rear suspension is another area where weight is lost. Stick axles are relatively heavy. I'd bet the weight of all the control arms and supporting hardware is less than the stick axle by a substantial margin.

I question if a stick axle will have the area it needs to move under the new car. I doubt a stick axle conversion will happen without cutting the floor for clearance. I read that the rear seat is bigger and wider due to changes in the floorpan that the IRS allowed. Opening that space for passenger use, means reducing the space a live axle needs to move up and down. Just a guess on my part.

Everyone keeps telling me that I will love it, just give it time, let it grow on you. The thing about that is, it is like a fat chick. If you don't like the way it looks, you don't like how it looks. Fat chicks don't all of the sudden become the hottest thing you have ever seen. Either you like it or you don't.

Thanks. One more query please.

The oem rods in the 3v are also powdered? Why can the 5.0 rods hold more power if they are made with the same process?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatwat

The 3V rods are toothpicks. There's a picture floating around here somewhere of a 4.6 rod next to a toothbrush and the only difference in appearance is the color.

Lol

I love how everyone is making ASSumptions about the IRS.

Seriously, Ford has probably done metric shit ton of testing, and they definitely didn't forget about the huge mistake they made with the old IRS.

It's different, and the rear is designed around the IRS, the IRS is not designed around the rear. Get it through your heads you naysayers.

My local ford rep said probably mid summer. We were training on escape but I figured he might have over heard.
