I'm close to ordering a set of NT05s. 275/40 for the fron 18x9, and 295/45 for the 18x10s. I want the taller tire to offset my gearing a bit, and for the strip. But I do plan on doing auto-X and road coarse more than one or two trips to the strip... would I have any issues? I guess my main concern is decreased stability due to the sidewall height...

They'll be a bit tall. I've got some 295/40's I'll be running and they're about as tall as I'd like to go. 45's are at least an inch taller overall and will make those 18's look like 17's, and will probably kick on your ABS light because of the difference from the fronts.

IMHO it's not the height that is the issue it's the sidewall size. at ~ 5.2" seems a bit much for AutoX. the sidewall will likely not be rigid enough for maximum corning grip

right, the sidewall size is what i meant. thanks. I dont mind the look, and I figured I'd need to recalibrate my tire rpm. Or is the abs completely separate?

305/40/18/thread

295/40/18 is a nice size but only made by falken in the azenis tire and big bucks but is a great tire for auto x, there was a pair of them in the f.s. section not long ago, not sure if they sold....about a month ago there was a blowout sale on them for like 50 bucks each which was a steal because the tire was discontinued for a newer better redesigned tire which is now out for sale

you will in your handheld. I don't think the ABS will be an issue. a lot of guys running 305/45/18s without issues

thanks for the help everyone. Yeah, I'd go with 295/40s, but falkens are 300 a piece, so I'd rather not.

I'll check out the other thread tyler

I'm a big fan of same size tire/wheel for each corner.

The diameter wont effect the ABS. In the event you did go with a taller tire you would indeed want to recalibrate the car. A 295/45 is probably at least an inch taller than what the vehicle calls for. Furthermore the taller the sidewall the more bend your going to get in the sidwall during hard cornering. Bad idea for handling so if you did go that route it would take some suspension upgrades to counter the negative effects. As for calibrating it you could use an SCT Programmer or something similar with your OBDII. You calibrate your car by revs per mile.

As for the 295 anyway I think you'll find as I have that width isn't everything. I use to have a bunch of 315/35-17's for my 99 by Sumitomo and they sucked big time! worst tire in the world if you actually want to hook and it was a lesson learned. Sumitomo = china crap or sumo-crapo's. The rubber was really hard and didn't stick. However I could have went with a 275 series tire that used a softer compound and gotten 3 times the actual traction. Quality rubber compound is superior to width trust me!

lol, nice.

as it stands. I'll either go with non-K Azenis 615s in 255/45+295/40 or the above mentioned nt05s

I settled on 275/40/18 NT05s.... couldnt do 615k because they dont offer 275/40 for the front, would have gone with 295 rear. RE-11s are 300 per tire, so for the money saved I bought a gopro motorsport on amazon with a 60 discount and something else I cant recall. I spent 3-4hours straight last night researching tires and just couldnt deal with it anymore, lol... the set i went with are 2.2% shorter than stock, which sucks, but oh well. I guess I'll have to get DRs later on and not try to do everything with a single set of tires...

I didnt go with 295/45s (rear) because of the extra weight/flex and potential understeer...

You made the right choice. The NT05 is a better tire than the Azenis to boot. Azenis are known to lose all grip long before the tread is gone.
