one handed ftw!

I know, I never really realized that until I watched the videos.

Grab yourself one of these 8 ball spinners and you'll knock seconds off your time!

is the whole rear end moving back and forth or is the tire deflecting off the rim ? Doesn't seem like the rear end could move that much without something being busted.

You are seeing both the tire move and the body move realative to the rim. Watch the rim and you'll see how much lateral movement there is, and that is inherent in with a Panhard bar arrangement since the bar is attached to a fixed point on the axle but a moving point on the body. The result is the body has to swing in an arc is it moves up and down.

I do like how the rear pivots at the center. That way the wide tires actually rotate inside the fender without rubbing. The camera mounted in that spot does show what most people would never suspect.

So you like the fact there is strange and unequal suspension geometry change? Bear in mind the opposite is happening on the other side. And in fact a Watts link allows more room for bigger tires, not less. In fact on my Camaro when I moved from a no deflection rod-ended PHB, I was able to take 3/8" of spacer out of EACH rear wheel setup that was required to keep rubbing down with the PHB. I was using all the room there was, and in fact with the PHB had to skew the body to the right on purpose statically to keep make the wheels/tires not rub. I was able to dump that much spacer, and what little rub I had--was gone when the Fays2 went on the car.

A little tech-nical advice; when you install it, put the pivot point inside the rim. If you can find one like mine (1954), it will have a button that allows the knob to swivel so the pivot axis is parallel to the rim. That way you're not as likely to catch your sleeves on the knob when you flat-hand the rim through those four-and a half turns, lock-to-lock.

I UNDERSTAND THERE'S AN ARC THE REAR END MUST TRAVEL AS IT MOVES UP AND DOWN. (sorry, stupid caps lock elves) But that video also makes it look like there rear end shifts alot side to side without any up and down movement. And that can't be, unless something is busted. Whether a panhard bar is or isn't good is debatable, and I don't wanna debate it cause I'm not knowledgable enough on suspension set ups. But, that movement that looks like the rear end moving in and out with no wheel travel has to be just sidewall flex on the tires. Right ?

What you are seeing is partially the tires, and partially the fact that he's running a PHB that still utilizes bushings (or so I recall I think it's a non-adjustable BMR unit). Poly bushings, much to the surprise of many, still flex.

ah, good to know grasshopper. Which is why I like to ask questions of the experts. Thanks Sam, you are, as always, the bomb.

they are SO fun, safely go out and drive your car at speed (relative to the size of the course. It sure feels like you're haulin ass) and do so in a good environment, you gotta try it. It is addicting. And you need nothing but your car, and a helmet. It becomes apparent quickly that all that stuff you thought you knew about driving, aint shit, haha.

The second vid is a graphic illustration of just how much the body moves around over the axle with a PHB (any PHB). With a Watts link the body would be moving straight up adn down relative to axle.

If you don't mind a little unsolicited advice: Try 2nd gear and leaving it. :)

Just another reason for me to get a better camera next year and mount it on my fender.

Great videos - what camera did you use?
