OK here is my story a few weeks ago we had a nice cold front and a few buddies and I went to the track. I didn't run at the track but on the way home a friends and I decided to do a roll run, well needless to say car down shifted and was moving until it went to shift. Yep u guessed it nothing fall flat. Got off it, and then gave it light gas and it drove OK got to the lights in the city and didn't want to go anywhere. I got it moving by shifting through the gears till I hit drive and made it home but when I went to back it up nothing. So I'm almost positive Trans is shot, just confused since I can still drive it if i go through the gears one At a time. Any ideas?

Why isnt this tech?

Sounds like the whole trans isnt shot, more like a pump or input shaft issue. Im sure some of the auto trans heavy hitters will come in here soon.

Check the pressure relief valve in the front pump, mine did the same thing when the valve stuck open. I parked the car and whenever I started it back up it wouldn't go into gear.

I don't remember for sure the codes when mine had issues, but I believe that was one of them. There are I believe three sensors, the computer compare the signal from each and in your case the output shaft has no signal because it's not turning.
If you rev the engine with it in drive or reverse does it try to go into gear? If so its definately dumping pressure and the pressure relief valve is bad. I had a guy in Pasadena build mine, and later replace the pressure relief valve. He works fairly cheap but does an excellent job, if your interested pm me Ill give you his name and juber to his shop.

Honestly I'm looking to buy a level ten Trans that they rate for 1000, and the Guy said they give a 3yr warranty..... but please pm me the cost and number different would consider it. And yea it trys to go in gear when I do both but drive will catch most the time but easier when I do the shifting.....

I wouldn't buy anything from level ten after my experience with them. When buying parts to build my trans I purchased a front pump that they advertise as a super pump for around $400. When it arrived is was nothing more than a stock Ford front pump and to top it off it had rust all over. I called and told them I wanted to return it as there was nothing special about it and that it was just a stock pump. It took almost two weeks of arguing with them to give me authorization to return it and get a refund. The worst part was they claimed it wasn't rusty when it left their shop and that something must have happened to it enroute eventhough I had it shipped next day air and the box was undamaged.

I had mine rebuilt there and it runs great. The owner showed me every part that had issues and walked through the customization they do. There warranty has a clause that states you must use there trans calibration though.

What is the calibration issue is it a slouch? I called TCI on there Trans but they are more expensive and will only do a 90 day warranty..... I have a 4r70 I was going to install but if their are 5rs out there that can hold my pwr it doesn't make sense to but all the other parts to do a swap when I can build mine and it will still be a bolt in deal. Send me a pm place for the Guy in Pasadena ill be more then happy to talk to him.

Why don't you call JDM and ask them how many Level 10 tuned vehicles they've had to retune because the Level 10 tunes just can't seem to get it right - performance and drivability.

The truth is all of the builders are using basically the same parts, Alto Red Eagle clutches or whatever Alto's latest and greatest friction material is, koleen steels, maybe Kevlar bands, billet servos, and a billet input shaft. That is pretty much all that exist for a 5R55 no matter what the various shops may tell you. I choose to go with someone local simply because he is local, and if I need something I can talk to him face to face drop it off and pick it back up in a day or two instead of shipping it across the country and hoping to see it back inside a month.

Also I don't know how much power you are or intend to make but if you plan on beating on a 5R55 I wouldnt count on it lasting a long time as the internal parts are small.

I agree with everything you stated. Only item I would add is a high quality torque converter. Personally I chose a PI multi disc 3,200 stall.

No matter what you do to the 5R55S, it isn't going to be reliable long term above 550 RWHP.

I don't see what your HP & Torque levels are but if they are around mine
I have had Zero problems with my TCI Super Street Fighter and Circle-D Converter.

The information below might give you another option.

Here is the Link to my conversion from a Manual to the TCI if you wish to check it out.

Major changes, TCI Automatic, Roll-Cage, Seat Delete, BMR Suspension, Borla, etc.

Here is the Dyno Chart to give you the Power Level.

Agreed, I had a Circle D triple disc built for my car before ever pulling the transmission out of the car. I have been using Circle D convertors since the days of modding my 95 SuperCoupe with 4R70W, and will likely have him build something for my big block Fox convertible.

I haven't had it dynoed with me blower but was told I'd be close to 550 to 575. I have a new best of 11.7 with some spin off the line, I'm was working out the suspension but obviously can't now but. Either way I need to do something with the Trans.... I Know I have way more in the car.
