Hi everyone,
Can you please take a look at my gear pattern photos?
This is a new Richmond gear set in a Ford 8.8 rear axle.
Do the drive and coast patterns look correct, or do they need adjustment?
If they need adjustment, should I:
add or remove pinion shim?
or just adjust the backlash?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Idod,

The paint pattern looks just like the shop manual says is "all correct". But it's better to wait for a ring and pinion guru to chime in. :)

Here's a link [www.differentials.com/two-cut-vs-five-cut-gears - West Coast Differentials site - their article] to a useful bit of info about paint patterns - the gear cut (2 vs. 5 cut) makes a difference. Richmond Gears are supposed to be made with the 5-cut process (a good thing, imho) but you can call them to confirm.

Thank you very much, but I'd be happy to know if you've done this before, why am I going crazy, haha

Idod,

Nope, I am of no use on this other than what I found online (some time ago). I had a local rear gear guru change the diff gears in my '98 GT and the '12 came with the rear gearing I wanted.

I hope you get the info you want to confirm that the paint pattern is good (or, on the off chance, the gears need some tweaking).

Chris
