ABS Module Question

Probably a dumb question, but:

The ABS module isn't directly connected to the master cylinder (except by brake lines of course). So is the ABS module actually agnostic to what kind of master-cylinder/booster you run?

I've been thinking of switching over to an aftermarket MC, and that may or may not drop the booster.

That should not be an issue. If you can't get a good pedal ten you might need to have it bled professionally with a proper scanner.

There is one point to consider, our ABS has no brake assist systems, does that mean that our leg must provide the full pressure for maximum braking all the time? If so, I probably need a bigger booster for my Autobahn cruise....

I know when I put my Wilwood brakes in, I had peddle issues until I switched to the GT500 booster.

1748016531893.pngThis is what i have since day one, after changing the cams to Comp, never had an issue with low pedal. When you change cams your vacuum is going to decrease down to 10 to 16 inches of vacuum. You need 18 to 20 inches to be safe.

Brake lines remain the same, as well as your master cylinder. You just have to make new lines from the power steering pump to the booster and from booster to steering rack, plus a return line from booster to power steering (low pressure).

How difficult was that change in booster job? Any brake line changes needed?
None, they're basically the same exact external dimensions and all. I believe it's just an internals change. No brake line changes or anything, still using stock-style master. The process for putting in the GT500 booster is the same as reinstalling the GT booster you take out. Hardest part for me was origami-ing myself into the footwell to release the brake peddle from the plunger. You do have to remove the MC to get the booster out, so you have to re-bleed the MC, but these units are pretty forgiving. If you're quick about plugging up the lines and such, you can get through without introducing too much air.

Does someone has the part number of the GT500 booster? I have a 2007, I guess they changed the MC from the 2011+

Is this the right one?


Update, it is not, cars before 2009 needs a MC change too, so the result will be unpredictable.

I thought it was 7R3Z-2005-A but apparently another part is in the discontinued bin. Boo.

Can't tell what they changed, as to why it would require a different MC, unless they changed the shaft size.

If the problem you're having is that you have to give the brakes a pump before they work fully, you can also try adding a residual pressure valve in-line. It will keep the lines at a constant minimum pressure regardless of what's happening upstream.

id assume more if it helps with cam profiles like mine ,where back pressure is lowered, regain normal brake peddle feel \ function.

as well as helps apply more stopping force to oversize brakes
