Hey,

So when I start the car and go in to reverse or out of first gear there is an annoying rattling sound coming from under the centre console.. I havent gotten the time to jack the car up yet since ive been working but I will on wednesday.

Anywho sounds like some sort of metal or something is rattling down there.. Anybody experienced this issue? Sorta sounds like the transmission heat plate or whatever its called.

Issue after issue with this car.. I bought such a lemon..

Check the heat shield around your longtubes. The BBKs tuck very close to the frame of the car on the drivers side... Mine damn near rubbed on it and the heat shield. That may be the cause of your rattling.

Guys you need to check out the transmission seperator plate! Mine buzzed like crazy when I started it up. I fixed it by just bending it out just a tad and sticking some automotive grade washers inbetween the bellhousing and the transmission on the most bottom two bolts. There is also a TSB about it, where they fixed it with a redesigned plate.

This thread is perfect timing! I've had a rattle at startup ever since I replaced my clutch 2 months ago. Have dropped and checked the midpipe, checked all heatshields, etc... and it is still there.

I did slightly bend the midplate when removing the tranny (6 years of corrosion). My question is what causes the rattle? Seems like the midplate is clamped down pretty tight by all of the bellhousing bolts? Is it the flywheel or something hitting the midplate? I'll try the spacer/washer fix this weekend I guess.

There are two TSB's in the TSB thread that might be the cause of this.

I also have a rattle coming from the transmission area, but I can only hear it slightly from outside of the car. I know it's not the exhaust hangers. I guess I need to get under and check it. Mine is a 2007.

The revised version of the plate just has a cutout on the bottom. The rattling is the plate against the bellhousing.

Edit: When I started mine up in the morning the rattling was LOUD, it sounded absolutely terrible.

I had the separator plate fixed by the tsb as well. A very annoying buzzing rattle sound on cold startup.

If you still have cats, I would suspect them. When that mesh starts coming apart it makes this rattle that you can't find.
